Importing A Dog From Australia To Nz

Was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on approx cost of importing a dog from Australia into NZ (airfare, quarantine?? etc). I believe the same regulations must also be applicable when you import a dog from NZ to Au so hope to find some people here who can lend some advice.

From speaking to quite a few friends that have imported puppies in NZ from Aus, the rough estimate I am working by is anything from $1500-$4000 depending on customs fees.

It is just a pain they need to apply GST !
