What Food Can Your Dog Not Resist?

Why are they in a supposedly caring profession, then, I wonder.

I once had a vet call me "a neurotic mother". I had a tiny little female Maltese who had heart disease and used to catch regular infections. She died at three and a half of heart failure, but I was "neurotic" because I cared enough to ensure she was given the best treatment possible. I didn't say anything to the vet hospital owner and that I have always regretted.

Not sure if I ever mentioned this story. I had a dear wee hand raised cockatiel. Sweetest little bird. (little being the operative word too.)

I decided the bird might have been ailing because he appeared to not be feeding.

I put him on the kitchen scales. Of course, his weight was so grossly inaccurate.

I begged DaddyVizsla to drive us about 70kms to 'the Bird Vet'. You know, my baby was poorly etc.

Even years later Jim Gill laughs at that consulation. I proudly wore the label of Neutoric Momma.

Bird was fine but the Vet appreciated I had concerns. He was just a smaller bird.

I was pleased to be treated well ableit silly.

:)

:offtopic: DDD, just thought I would mention that there is a new 24hour emergency vet that has opened at Terry Hills. It's just past the intersection of Forest Way and Mona Vale Rd.

Not sure whether they specialists as such, but it's good to know that there is an alternative to SASH, especially after hours.

VERY diasppointed to hear of your experience this morning.

It's a shame the regular vets weren't there. I think I know who you saw and I wouldn't let her touch any animal that have.

Go and have something nice to eat, keep up your fluids and give Danny a big hug

She is always on on Saturdays and I would NEVER have her for a consultation. She is the one who, if she cracked a smile, the world would probably end. That sounds awful, but how you can not greet someone with a smile (all the others do) is beyond my comprehension.

She also told me I was crazy to have "a rescue dog" given an operation to restore his sight  . She said she wouldn't even do that for her own dog. How a vet could even think that let alone say it is gobsmacking.

Yes, she is a witch! I'm surprised she even has an animal!

Oh, I didn't know about that. Thank you very much. Is it on the left coming from St Ives?

I think you're referring to NEVS - it is an existing after hours / emergency hospital that has just moved to a new location. They don't have specialists or do GP services.

DDD

That vet was horrible. I've never had that problem with any vet. ARGH. last time I took her in - I was working on her front end while I thought the vet was checking her joints, cos I'd asked for a general checkup including joints and next thing I know, the vet says "she's really good about having her temperature taken"?

Both me and the dog made cat's bum faces. Wha?

But my dog didn't move or complain and nobody was holding her down in a headlock (that would just be a good way to get bitten).

Some people are probably better off in research - maybe pathology would be a good profession for that vet - then she would not have to deal face to face with animals or their "mums".

At least it's closer than SASH in the case of emergency. The local paper said that it was a co-op of 30 vets in the area. If it's replacing the one at Forestville, that's a good thing.

NEVS is the cooperative hospital but it has moved to Terry Hills from its location within Forest Animal Hospital (which now operates as Forest 24/7). However NEVS did temporarily exist in Forestville Animal Hospital for the last few months, just to confuse the issue.

My goodness, that is confusing :D

I used to take my dog to Forestville. I only lived 3 doors down from them. Loved Roy Matthews there. A very gentle , caring vet.

DDD. How did Danny go with his food today. Did he eat and was he able to keep the food down?

Not a good day, cavNrott :( He did lick the bowl in which I'd mxed up my omelette at lunch time, but everything else I offered him through the day he just pushed around the plate.

He has thrown up, but he licked it down again.

I'm making bone broth as recommended by the people Valbitz referred me to and sent me samples of their food. Chicken carcasses simmering for 24 hours :eek:   It won't be ready until tomorrow afternoon, but it will be super super nutritious.

I so wish I had something useful to add, but I dont - sending you love and support.

That is the opposite to "nothing", SM - that is everything.

I think if it hadn't been for the support and suggestions Danny and I have received from this thread and from private messages, I might have given up or, if not, Danny would not be in the slightly improved state he is this morning.

Danny hasn't had his last Cerenia injection this morning as my vet suggested we try him with the tablet again. There is no doubt that his demeanour seems much more "up" than even three or four days ago, so I really think the Cerenia might be working. Holding my breath on that one. I have to wait a while before I give him that to put the appropriate distance between that and the Carafate.

He also had a late night supper of Gussy Cat food last night, so I guess his hunger has been appeased as well. (He wouldn't touch it this morning although he watch me prepare it with almost slavering eagerness.)

The bone broth continues to bubble very slowly on the stove with all windows and doors open as it is raining and has been all night and it nicely coolish.  Only another 7 hours to go

DDD, so sorry to hear about the ongoing trials of Danny - and you. Not to worry about the vet - some people are born nasty (probably fell on their heads at birth) and continue that into their careers ... mostly then progress to DPI or research, or working for a pet food company - am sorry you met her. Take no notice.

Sending healing thoughts to you both. Lighting a candle.
