Her Majesty Dogmad
I have used Rescue Remedy for mild anxieties, when new dogs arrive usually but I recently tried "Calm" which is made in Melbourne and sold by a few vets who support natural remedies and it seemed very effective - it's about $35 for a bottle. It's fantastic and a new vet I saw recently used a calming spray for a stressed cat I was helping to rescue that he examined for me. The effect was amazing - he'd simply sprayed it above the crate and the cat settled almost immediately. Was the calming spray the same product you mention first?
Christina
Found rescue remedy to be useless but have used Tranquil Paste which is for use on horses or dogs. Its mainly vitamins & when my boys got upset & were howling for the girls on heat & getting upset, scratching doors & generally absolutely frustrated I did find it helped settle them considerably although not entirely. Also slight improvement on a nervous dog but not as much effect as on the boys.

It is a Vit B complex formula so you can't really compare them to one another.
Salukifan
interesting stuff. I use therapeutic grade oils on myself/family, and have bought specific oils "supposed to be helpful for dogs" (and other animals). I honestly don't find them to be helpful, my dog avoids me if i attempt to apply any of them or if i am wearing any of them ~ which is interesting as many report dogs/horses are "attracted" to such oils. Does anyone feel natural remedies to be more effective than pheromone collars? More effective for what? What results are you hoping to achieve and specifically for what issue? I doubt any of these treatments are going to result in a dog not manifesting anxiety so we're down to talking about degrees of anxiety. IMO you need behaviour modification AND treatments to create any form of enduring improvement.
