Vomiting Becoming Chronic

Picked Sarebear up this evening after she had been barking the house down at Anzac Highway - she'd clearly had enough and wanted to come home!

Now have to wait on the results of the blood tests. Not sure how long that will take - but fingers and paws crossed.

Boy - 'while the cats away' you lot. laugh.gif

OK - the good news is that her bile thing-a-me test came back normal. But boy is her poo still smelly! So the Specialist now wants to try her on an elimination diet - and the only protein we can think of that she hasn't been exposed to is goat!! So Adelaide DOLers, if anyone knows where to buy goat meat in cooey of the CBD or Crafers please can you let me know? He said if it becomes obvious that it's not diet related we can go to bowel biopsies etc but we are a long way from that yet.

So goat it is. Just hope she'll eat it or I'm stuffed!!!laugh.gif

I know that lots of hunters target feral goats so if you have no luck then you may know someone who knows someone that you could ask. Otherwise lots of Italian butchers stock it. I know a specialist pet meat place over here also stocks it so I would think there may also be places in SA that do the same. Goat is an excellent meat. Raw green goat tripe is also top stuff.

Glad to hear better news.

How about checking the Halal butchers at the Adelaide Central Markets?

I have found the equivalent in Sydney have kid meat as opposed to (tougher) older goat.

I think you should have the same luck.

Couldn't help myself...I Googled and found these WM: Prime Valley Pastoral Company at Two Wells, they deliver

http://www.primevall.../products.shtml

and the Meat Market http://www.weekendno...et-edwardstown/

no doubt you can do a search for 'goat meat Adelaide' and see what comes up.

VM's Halal butchers suggestion is a good idea

You could always buy a live goat from a goat-seller on Gumtree, your little guys will be happy to help with the butchering

eta: have you tried Sarah on fish? not canned but fillets/chunks that you cook at home, maybe worth a go

When my girl had to go on an elimination diet it was relatively easy as she had never had kangaroo previously.

It's good that we give dogs a varied diet but if they have a diet that covers most proteins it becomes problematical if you have to find a protein source that they haven't tried.

Goat always seems to be sold frozen here. Maybe try a butcher that sells in bulk and the Meat Market sounds like a good idea.

Also Zantac is something that my girl has on a regular basis. It is worth remembering if you have ongoing issues.

Thanks everyone - really appreciated. Yep Stitch I know what you mean - I thought I was being a good owner giving varied proteins and now I have to find one Sarah hasn't had - she's had roo Jules and probably too regularly for it be effective as an elimination protein so I think it will have to be goat. Will let you know how I get on. smile.gif

Westiemum, how is Sarah progressing? I thought of you and this thread when I wiped up the umpteenth vomit Danny has done in the past few days  .

Despite my comment (#3 in this thread) Danny is not doing well, and I have been posting about this in my thread "What food can your dog not resist".

I am waiting on my vet to call me back as I have sent him the chart I've kept covering the past four days. I am without a car at the moment, but hopefully it will be ready late afternoon.

Danny's case is different from Sarah's as we have a diagnosis and there is nothing wrong with his poos. He seems to be [just] maintaining his weight and I have tried to address that by syringing Nutrigel with one of his tablets. That was working for a couple of days, but now he is bringing that up as well.

If I had to put my dogs on an elimination diet, I would be in your situation as, over the years, they have been fed just about everything. However, from now on I am just going to stay with plain old beef (I buy Prime raw rolls). I have been mixing it with mashed vegies and Prime Raw Chicken for bones, but I'm going to stop that too. Even Bunter has thrown up a couple of times in the past week  .

Watching Danny is just breaking my heart. He is too old at 15 for the repair operation to his oesophagus, but I am beginning to wonder whether we might have to risk it. Terrified.

westiemum, what you have described sounds alot like the first attack my Cairn had with pancreatitis. All tests run by the vet did not confirm the diagnosis - the only way we found out was by opening him up and having a look - as he was continuing to detriorate ie losing weight. He was much younger than your girl (18 months), but he had the twisting/contorted look, smelly back end and vomiting.
