Little Gifts
There is no one, singular right way - training techniques are about what works best for you and your dog.
grumpette
Make it fun, lots of fun. Oh and I am my dogs' biggest handicap at any trial we enter. I was going to say the same thing re: fun. I'm coming to the conclusion that it's a Rottweiler 'thing'. lol I'm the lonely loony in a sea of GSD's and Malinois. Oh I know that feeling of being the odd one out very well at the moment. Zeph and his brother Flint are doing water rescue with the Newfie club. Let us just say that they are known as "The bald Newfies"

Diana R
Train the dog you are with, not the dog you want - he'll always tell you his truth in that moment if you are willing to listen.
Mrs Rusty Bucket
the most important thing I know about dog training... pay attention to who is doing the training... is it you? or is it your dog? My dog has always been super brilliant at training me... including using aversive escape training eg I will bark and bark and bark and eventually you will give me what I want... hankdog
Yes, my Jake is the super human trainer. I do everything he wants, including let him sit in the creek at dog training this morning after I had just washed him and all his gear. Just because he told me he would behave if I let him wallow in mud. He behaved just enough better to make me let him do it again!

dancinbcs
Always think like a dog. Try to imagine what the dog would be thinking in any given situation.
Agility Dogs
Don't let silly human ambitions get in the road of having fun with your dog. If it's not fun for both of you then you are doing something wrong - time to rethink.
