Canisbellum
Thank you Did some experimenting this morning this is no flash and hand held. It has a mode that takes 3 photos and blends them.

Kirislin
You'll have lots of fun with it by the looks of things. I'm a great one for buying birthday presents for myself. You deserve it. :D The scenery there is amazing. Those humps in the road mile after mile, Wow!
Dave-o
It must be so nice being bought a 70D from someone Even if it is yourself...! I assume the 3 shot function is "HDR"? 3 different exposures in the same shot.

Dave-o
That's not bad, was it shot from the hip or a tripod? Canon's are really good with a low ISO, and you could easily reduce the grain if you have Lightroom.
Canisbellum
Hand-held and I do have lightroom 5. Will have to play around with it. That's jpeg though only started shooting raw recently
Kirislin
Canon also has a noise reduction program in DPP which you would have got on a CD when you bought the camera.
Dave-o
Hand-held and I do have lightroom 5. Will have to play around with it. That's jpeg though only started shooting raw recently I usually experiment with Sharpness/Noise Luminance in Lightroom - Set the Sharpness to about 70, then adjust Noise Luminance to approximately 30. With a darker photo you may do better with less sharpness, so have a play around. This is a bit lossy as it's on Facebook, but you can see the sky is a fair bit smoother. I took that on a Sony RX100 cybershot, so you're off to a better start with your 70D:
Dave-o
Upping the expose will help too. Underexposed images keep much more detail than overexposed, so I bet you can get that beach scene looking really good really easily. I tend to lower the exposure on a lot of photos then bring them back in Lightroom. Edited November 24, 2014 by Dave-o

Dave-o
Great, you can see the improvement. Also have a tinker with the exposure, highlights, and shadows to lighten it up ;) I'm a member of this photography group in Perth. I've learnt a lot in the last 6 months: https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/458778260931527/?fref=ts Next meet is in Hillary's for the fireworks on Saturday night.
