Lemonlime
So came across this in the local shop https://www.holisticselect.com/product.aspx?pet=dog&cat=5&pid=83 Deboned Turkey and Lentils with NO potato and grains. Thought I would share for anyone looking for a grain free food that doesn't have potato in it as I am unaware of any others.
seregil
That's interesting, thanks for sharing. I am always on the lookout for foods with obscure ingredients for one of my dogs who has food sensitivities and very dodgy digestive system . I do have to wonder how well dogs would digest lentils though, they are awefully high in fibre (the last thing my dog needs )
sas
Includes Chicken Fat and Pork Meal Natural Fish Flavor = Artificial. Edited August 26, 2014 by sas
Dave-o
Their other recipes seem to include more oils, like fish oils. Brewers yeast is unusual for them...
cavNrott
The Turkey and Lentil variety ingredient list looks good.
LisaCC
Bugger, could of been a good option for us if it didn't have the chicken fat
Lemonlime
Excuse my ignorance sas but what is wrong with chicken fat and pork meal? I got a couple of bags for my dogs, so far so good. My 'delicate' dog who is very sensitive to chicken and fish proteins has had no digestive problems at all :)
LisaCC
My dog is sensitive to chicken that's why it's a no for us.

sas
Thanks sas, I thought you were meaning there is something bad about those ingredients Well Artificial flavour isn't awesome. Each person will have what they like and don't like in a food :)
sheena
It does state "natural fish flavour", so not sure how Natural equates to artificial.
Dave-o
It doesn't look too bad to me. There's a few sub-par ingredients but it's definitely better than most.
cavNrott
Chicken fat and pork meal are fine as long as your dog can tolerate it. One of my dogs has pancreatitis attack if she eats anything fatty so we won't be buying this what appears to be a good dog food. How would NATURAL fish flavour be artificial? Danois
http://www.zchemicals.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=27 Natural flavours are created in labs too - just like artificial flavours. As a side note - natural flavours is a bit of an empty claim as artificial flavours don't tend to crop up in pet foods, other than in some treats. Lemonlime
Cavnrott, I would have assumed that animal fat (or in this case chicken) is in most if not all dry dog foods? This particular food from memory is 14% fat so I wouldn't call it fatty. I actually purchased some because I was looking for lower fat options for my little piggies :)
cavNrott
Lemonlime there are plenty of low fat dry dog foods. Weight loss foods are usually low in fat and most of the seniors food has a low fat content. At 14% fat content would cause one of my dogs a pancreatitis attack. I feed raw 95% of the time but occasionally give them a good quality low fat dry food for their morning meal.
Lemonlime
Yes I know, sadly none of them have similar ingredients to this. I understand you have to be extra careful with your dog's diet though.
