DobieMum
Have a friend with a shephard, who is struggling to get focus, what are some of the different tricks/activities you can play to get focus? Pup will take or leave both food and toys.

lazypup
Persephone had pup from 7.5 weeks, It's 5.5 months now, everything works. Favorite things to do is play with flirt pole, tug, fetch balls and chase anything that moves searching for hidden toys or food being any park or river or place where other animals have been pup seems to enjoy. Pup is best to train when fired up favorite treats are raw meat, sardines and sausage of any kind but gets bored of any one really quickly . But trying to get pup to focus on anything when distracted is a mission. I will try hand feeding and K9 pro's Triangle of temptation. Thanks. persephone
..and remember to do things in very short bursts :) two minutes ..maybe 5 to start with ... focus/concentration needs to be built up and solid BEFORE there are distractions :) Practice in a boring room ..then move it gradually to other situations remember - keep things short & sharp :)
Agility Dogs
Agree with what the others have said. The other thing I've been guilty of in the past is not rewarding heavily enough. As long as having really short sessions make sure there are LOTS AND LOTS of opportunities to earn reward in the session while you are looking for focus. I started with 3 or 4 rewards in a 30 second session, that same dog will now work for 5 minutes with a much lower level of reward.
lazypup
Pup was heaps better today did really well with focus with lots of distractions at training. Thanks for the advice.
hankdog
Tea training. Every time I boil the kettle for a cup of tea I just do three or four tricks. I do a walk and an afternoon training session but during the day I regularly "shoot" my dog, make him do a death roll, wake him up for a high five. I think the value of tricks is you can just ask for one every now and then during the day. That way the dog gets to never know when you're going to suddenly give him a command and treat. BC Crazy
T training, I like that idea Hankdog Must start that here too. I usually just cuddle my guys when I could be asking them to do a little something more on occasion. Thanks for sharing. :)
