I know we've done this before but thought its probably not a bad idea to update the Adelaide vets who people are really happy with. A work colleague who adopted an older rescue cat with fiv about 18 months ago, has just had the upselling local vet drive her up the wall, insist on vaccinating the cat against her better judgment and now the cat is recovering after a couple of days of being very unwell post-vaccination. So she is looking to change vets (and yes that was the last vaccination!). She lives at Happy Valley but is willing to travel within reason. Kylie Jopson at Payneham is already on the list but too far from my work friend. I really like Christine Empson too but she's at the Emergency Hospital on Anzac Highway so that's not as easy. I used to work with Pip and Stew Mason before they had their current practice and I can highly recommend them both. Marion Small Animal Hospital used to have a very good reputation when I was in Adelaide (and working at one of the clinics in the Happy Valley area for a long time.......) but I've been gone for a few years so not sure who is currently there. I often go to CLG vets on springbank road but it's a bit random if you get someone who is good with dogs. And my usual vet for vaccinations (C5 no matter what), is the Glenside Vet on Greenhill road near L'Estrange St. And he just recommended Marion Road vet for after hours emergencies... hmm. they don't seem to be 24 hours... Sigh. Anzac Road might be the only one that is. We live near Happy Valley and have gone to the Aberfoyle Hub Vet Clinic for 13 years (and 3 dogs) now. I can thoroughly recommend them. Ian has kept my old dog going through all sorts of troubles and I have always trusted him and his advice. We had to say goodbye to my old dog last week and they were extremely caring and considerate all the way through. They do 3 yearly vaccinations and never up-sell or try and make us buy any extras, like some do. Prior to this we went to Colonel Light Gardens Vet clinic who were terrific, but we moved and started going to Aberfoyle Hub just for vaccinations etc. but they have been so trustworthy that I just changed over completely. suziwong66 Posted August 21, 2014 Share Posted August 21, 2014 We've stated using Hawthorn Vet Clinic on Unley road - it might actually be Belair rd; i'm not sure when Unley rd ends. I've been more than happy with them so far. We went because I wasn't getting the service i expect at our last vet on Greenhill Rd. I had been taking Wilbur in for his skin issues and leaking since he's been desexed (nearly a year) and they kept on just saying wash him with Malaseb and the response to the leaking issue was surgery...i was stunned that they didn't discuss any of the drugs available. I got a phone call after i got back home suggesting i put baking soda in his bowl! Anyways after a year of that crap we moved on. The first visit was great: Fiona really listened to me and my request about a management plan with his skin and we explored out options. She discussed various drugs for his leaking and agreed on propalin. I took him back for a check up two weeks later and his skin was brilliant and the leaking had stopped His skin has been excellent and whenever i go in they always ask how the management plan is working for us We've also seen Nick and he was good too; really listens! Snippy Posted August 22, 2014 Share Posted August 22, 2014 I haven't used them, but I have heard good things about Southern Animal Hospital (Morphett Vale), Marion Animal Hospital (Mitchell Park) and Seaford Vet care (Seaford). If there is an emergency there is also this place Animal Emergency Centre Adelaide All the vets I have used and use currently are to the North of the city, so while I recommend them they are unlikely to be of use to your friend. I gave him a little over two years and by the end I was frustrated and annoyed and I can think of another customer who wouldn't agree either. I have no confidence in the young vet he has working for him: there's been a number of times i've brought up an issue and got either no advice or radical invasive intervention as the solution. So far I'm really happy at Hawthorn; they listen and discuss and we work together to find the best way to move forward. I will say though, Nick is rather racist towards chocolate labbies: the first time we saw Nick was when Fiona was on holidays and he said he was shocked at how well Wilbur behaved because chockies are usually nutters I forgave him the insensitive (and incorrect) comment because Nick was happy to comply when i asked him not to reward Wilbur with attention until Wilbur was sitting Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Both my two were desexed there and that is where we go for routine stuff when we have anything that is routine. Not that we have had anything routine in a while . I recommended them to suziwong :). ness Posted August 23, 2014 Share Posted August 23, 2014 Have never had any issues getting dogs in if needed - Ness had an eye infection and when mum rang the vet she went to for her puppy vacs (on springbank road) they couldn't see her for a few days whereas when mum rang Hawthorn they said no bring her in that day. Not had to many issues when I have needed appointments getting them quickly. I really need to look at taking Kenz back soon so it will be interesting to see what they say about her history and what sort of plan they are happy to agree to re on-going medication. At this stage its all remained to complicated and the specialists have been happy to continue providing medications since she is still "current". I just discovered the vet who performed the surgery on Bailey a few years back no longer works there, and they have no idea where has he gone to.
