Esky the husky
So.. uhh I've never owned intact males before.. It seems that when my boy runs his balls might be chafing him. One of his inner thighs is missing hair and is a bit red.. Is that normal, and should I do something? I'd hate to think that was causing him any discomfort.. What an awkward topic, sorry
piper
Can't help with info but i have to say it was the topic heading that made me go "huh what?" and have to look and see. LOL

dancinbcs
I doubt it would be chaffing. More likely to be that he has chewed there. It seems to be a spot that is prone to itching. If the skin isn't really broken, dab some apple cider vinegar on the area to stop the itch and check his feet, legs and underarms for any other red spots lurking under the denser coat, possibly from a contact allergy. Also check for fleas.

It's a part of having a working intact male. Same for a gun dog. Yes, they do chaff. Fact of anatomy. You can try vaseline before he goes off to race/training. Smear the area thoroughly. Only thing is post-training, racing, you might feel like wiping him clean. The skin there does get irritated. There is anothe product called Bag Balm ( shall not describe that further *winks*.) Do you belong to any Sled club? Someone there could have more info. There are some horse products that could be used. But I am not current with their safety. Make sure it is in fact chaffing and no other reason. :) Edited August 17, 2014 by VizslaMomma
cannibalgoldfish
Slightly differentish, but my intact boy used to get a red rashy rub on his nads when ever he went to the beach or any other sandy place. It only happened with sandy soils...
Red Fox
Curash baby powder. My male had issues with this when his Suprelorin wore off. The Curash is fast, cheap and very effective. Also stops them licking the area and making it worse.
trifecta
There are some horse products that could be used For racing colts & stallions we use vaseline or baby oil. For an individual who is big, has ability but is not well bred enough for the breeding barn, we use the snip :D

Not good to use, have the snip for any animals. Edited August 17, 2014 by VizslaMomma
OSoSwift
Mine only has an issue at the beach. We have very fine sand that sticks like anything even when dry. I try to make sure his bits are well rinsed off, but it still causes abrasion issues.
Mrs Rusty Bucket
Erm... there was an episode of the checkout that got into anti chafing products for triathletes... apparently there are different prices depending whether it's for "men" or for "women"... http://triathlon.competitor.com/2013/10/gear-tech/four-anti-chafe-products-for-triathletes_88276 Mostly I wear bike pants / knee length lycra... Not sure how you'd get that on a dog. John Bertrand (skipper of Aus II) when he was training for a dinghy sailing championship - used metho to harden up his skin... those were the days... kelpiecuddles
Haha RB my dad still rubs metho on his face after shaving... He's a cyclist and does shave his legs as well but I'm not willing to consider the thought that he might rub metho anywhere else. Pawpaw cream might be good too. :)
Mrs Rusty Bucket
hmm, metho after shaving might stop infections getting into freshly shaven skin. It would probably sting a lot too.
kelpiecuddles
He always said it was a disinfectant and to toughen the skin on his face. What can I say, we breed em tough and rough in my family.
