Stitch
Small to medium sized breed - I have put a brick in the water bowl but it gets dug out leaving the dog without water. It's OK at the moment but when the hot weather starts again it will be a problem. For the size of the dog, the determination to dig the water out, which includes the brick, is very strong. Any ideas on how to stop it or at least have some water for the dog to drink?
Ranga
Replace the bowl with a bottle type water dispenser which has a ball bearing. Like this ... https://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/151131587
Stitch
Thanks for the suggestion but that wouldn't last 5 minutes. It would be totally chewed up...we are talking 6 month old puppy that chews everything.

The dispensers are the same as are used in rat and mouse cages :)
The Spotted Devil
Assuming he's outside...give him a clam shell full of water and toys to go nuts with and use blocks of ice in a metal bucket with a brick in the bottom. That's off the top of my head so think it through first
Bjelkier
I have the same issue with the Samoyeds. The only way I was able to keep water around was fill a horse trough or clam shell pool and eventually they'd get bored and leave some water in the bottom. aliwake
use something big and heavy. People have mentioned on here before using old ceramic basins I think? I use a large stainless steel bucket, and the weight of the water itself makes it hard to knock over.
Kirislin
I'd go for the clam shell too. Tag the whippet used to do this as a puppy too and I discovered it was because he loves water.

Kirislin
The clam shell sounds like a good idea....any ideas for inside the house? I dont bother with water inside anymore. My dogs can go outside whenever they want through a dog door and I've got water gardens and clam shells for them out there.
JRG
Try a Road Refresher bowl inside http://www.roadrefresher.com/ They are magic and the dogs love them Only 99% proof as I had a youngster that used to think it a great game to jump on the disc and make a fountain - still some water left but not much
The Spotted Devil
I have a road refresher type bowl in the car….it's brilliant but hasn't been road tested by a crazy pup.

kelpiecuddles
I go to the op shop and buy old jumbo size casserole or slow cooker insert dishes. You can gnerally find them around 7 litres and sometimes up to ten litres if you are lucky. You can also get small concrete water troughs from feed places
piper
A clam shell and multiple water bowls for outside. On really hot days 2 clam shells in different areas of the yard. And inside we use a Road Refresher bowl as well - if they go mental they can dig the water out of it which Cinna did a few times as a pup but as she is under supervision inside the digging in her inside bowl stopped pretty quick. Esky the husky
We had an inside water digger We got one of these It's a 'dog it' fresh and clear fountain.. Anyway she still dug in it, so we put her $2 plastic bowl over the top and bang stopped digging ( no choice) The water is designed to constantly flow down the side of the bowl. It holds 10 l so it's great and the water is always cold too!
Justrace
I wonder if an automatic waterer mounted at chest height would work? http://www.bowhouse.com.au/p/737730/automatic-pet-waterer---easily-hooks-up-to-a-water-tap.html You might just have a rather large water bill, but at least they'd still have water on hot days. Failing that install a horse trough lol
