Strange But Good Comments

Took Sarge down to the shops for some socialisation with Scout yesterday [the only other time he went was on the way back from the vet and I was carrying him]. I'm used to the normal comments like "YaY puppy" or "What a cute Boxer". But was getting a lot of comments of "Wow it's so nice to see purebreds". To be honest I don't go down into the suburbs much, so not sure what's walking around the streets. But I didn't think it was that unusual not to see purebreds frown.gif

I've had Scout for 8 years and never had a comment like that before and have taken him to those shops for years.

When I start going back to dog training [it's local], it will be interesting to see what types of dogs are there.

I get that comment when someone recognises that Nova is an Aussie. I used to get "It's so nice to see a well bred labrador" with my old lab too.

Appart from some of the really common working breeds and amstaffs and staffords it's getting rarer around here.

I often stop someone with an obviously well bred dog and compliment them on it - there are a couple of people around here with Borzoi, and also some Whippets and Samoyeds, but the absolute vast majority of dogs around here are working crosses or 'staffy' types. It's a breath of fresh air to see a purebred dog. :)

Yes, there's many people who think that... & say so. Which is nice.

Trouble is when you own a less common breed, lots of people assume it's a deliberate mixed breed. Like our Tibetan Spaniels. People make guesses like 'an interesting mix?', 'pekinese crossed with something else small?'.

I get a rare thrill.... when someone in the street or wherever, says, 'Tibbie!'. It always turns out that a relative or friend of that person owns one.

My "koolie x" and I know how you feel!

I met a lady a few weeks a go who got very excited that I knew her dog was a Murray River Curly. She thanked me for not calling him a labradoodle laugh.gif

Lisa, we know someone who owns a Murray River Curly & he says he gets odd comments. His favourite, 'Is that a Labrador with a perm?' :)

So he'd share that lady's excitement... that you knew the breed!

ETA: They then looked at me funny and questioned why i knew what he was haha

People don't bother arguing, they just say oh so a griffon is a pug x what then. I'm actually a bit sick of the attention she gets :( took her to the local markets and I have people picking her up and touching her without asking, she even started getting stressed by it so we left.

I delighted a lovely lady out walking her Tentie one evening... she was completely amazed that I knew what a Tentie was - and could recognise one. Of course I got myself lots of cuddles and kisses from said Tentie too... lol!

Someone asked me if Hershel (my Aussie pup) was a corgi. I mean what the actual f&@$?

rofl1.gif

You might not get this one because you have a red merle, but Nova is also a Dalmatian. Didn't ya know Australian Shepherds don't exist?

Aussie, some lady got really angry at me because her "Sister breeds those dogs and they are NEVER born without a tail, you chopped it off!!!". Sometimes you just have to smile and nod then walk away!

Alibi, I can just imagine the comments with a griffon! Especially because how many pug x's there are around now.

Interesting comments. I think it is sad that people automatically assume everything is a crossbreed. I take Jester to the beach every weekend and I too comment to people about their dogs. Today I saw a lovely Fox terrier (NOT A MINI an actual NORMAL SIZED ONE!!!) I was so pleased. Oh and I saw a Manchester terrier and the lady who had it said to me "thank god, someone who doesn't think it's a kelpie cross." I can sympathise. People always think Jester is a Husky

Yesterday we were driving along and someone tooted their horn at us so the dog would look at them... :banghead: Really not helpful when there is a learner driver at the wheel. Today we got mobbed at the beach... one lady actually had us bailed up so she could take pictures with her ipad and then she got out her phone and called her friend who was down the street to come and take a photo of her with the dog...

I've been asked several times what my 10 week old golden retriever puppy is....often whether it's a lab or GR and that I can mostly forgive, but sometimes straight out what is it? and that question most recently by someone who owns a golden retriever puppy themselves. Apparently the difference in colour was confusing...

I thought I owned one of the most identifiable breeds out there, but less than 50% of the time people actually guess right for either my adult or the puppy. I don't understand. It doesn't surprise me at all that people struggle to identify other breeds or refuse to believe they are purebreds.

Too many people I know or meet have oodles of varying types. I find it hard to be polite about them :o

There's a lovely old man I encounter on walks sonetimes and everytime he sees us the only thing he says is "Got a lovely, healthy dog there love" and it always makes me way happier than people just saying she's cute or pretty. He never stops to pat her or say anything else, just smiles and looks at her fondly and continues on his way.

On Friday I was waiting for my friend on a bench outside the bank and Didi had her front paws on the edge of the bench and was resting her head on my shoulder and another old man walked past and just said "best friends!" and kept walking. It was nice but odd and I had no idea how to respond!

I just get people insisting my dogs are crossed with dingos or bogans telling me "they look like a fox, it's gonna get shot"

Wouldn't call them good comments really? I have Shiba inu, btw.

Most people who tell me they recognise the breed go on to tell me they are basenjis... :o Seems only Japanese tourists or people who have lived in Japan actually recognise the breed.

That and the future (probably is now) byber who bailed me up to see if my dogs were female so she could breed her (non papered)boy shiba and "split the puppies between us"

Love those Terri :)

I have old Les that lives in the next street to me and he's always in his front garden pottering around. Every single time we used walk past he'd say "here comes the luckiest greyhounds in the world". I love it, it makes me feel proud that this old dude recognises the fact my greys are healthy and loved :) He's probably wondering where we are as I don't walk the streets anymore since we got attacked :(
