Kirislin
hmmmm could be a scam, I found that same photo when I googled dogo argentino puppies. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=dogo+argentino&client=firefox-a&hs=Ccq&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=sb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=j5HFU8bTEoqIkwXukYHgDg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=515#channel=sb&q=%27dogo+argentino+puppies%22&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&tbm=isch&facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=uDHfQbhXBkzYaM%253A%3Bqmx9xXGAUcr24M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.k9stud.com%252FImages%252FDebonairdogos%252FDebonairdogos_dogo-argentino-a20115313276.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fliodisphepbai1.blogspot.com%252F2011%252F06%252Fdogo-argentino-breeders-canada.html%3B600%3B524
Steph M
They're also selling very expensive Macaws as they have no time for them or something. I'd say scam. Report it to Gumtree.

Mrs Rusty Bucket
I guess it's a breach of customs law to import them. And a breach of most state laws to breed them - so that would be state police or council. Really should not look at gumtree there's a litter of newfoundland puppies give away in "Sutherland area > Gymea " With an address posted. kelpiecuddles
Pretty much anything selling expensive uncommon birds like macaws and african greys or offering very uncommon/expensive breeds for too good to be true prices is a scam. Sadly people still get sucked in...
Mrs Rusty Bucket
If you think it is a scam (since we can't import that breed etc) scam watch govt site. https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/scams/report-a-scam
Dracdog
Deffinate Scam particularly as the breed is on the restricted list
Ivory & Beau
I see so many scams on Gumtree and usually do report them but this one had me baffled. I was 99% sure that the breed wasn't allowed in Australia. Just so sad that people go to these lengths.
Kirislin
how do the scams work, are people dumb enough to pay for a pup without seeing it? How do they get around people who live nearby and want to see the puppy?
kelpiecuddles
They usually try to fish for information first on where the person lives so they can say the pup is located a long way elsewhere, therefore necessitating shipping.
Mrs Rusty Bucket
Didn't we have a long thread where somebody was trying to buy a puppy off a scammer... and the scammer - it being the dredded G-T site... said they were in the same city - to start with (think it was Adelaide) and then said they (and the puppy) were "temporarily" somewhere else like "Griffith" and the would be buyer was posting here so someone here who lives in Griffith said they'd go check it out, and then the seller-scammer said the puppy was somewhere else... eventually said the puppy was in South Africa... and that killed the deal because it's not worth importing (if it's even possible) from there. Not quite the same as a puppy in the same town. The person who started the thread didn't lose any money tho. But there is something known as the "Advance fee fraud" where you pay a small fee for shipping and that doesn't work out so you pay a bigger fee to get the puppy out of jail or hospital or whatever... and the fees get bigger and bigger and the excuses get grander... and people get sucked in because they've made an investment (cash and time and emotion) and they want the product... they don't want to cut their losses and run. It's not just puppies, it's all sorts. I don't think the newfies were scam puppies but I could be wrong. They also steal other people's pictures from breeder websites etc to make their scam ads... happens a lot with scuba equipment - the really expensive stuff like "rebreathers". Except the scuba community - especially the guys who use that stuff is so tiny they usually recognise the photo off their own personal or friend's website... Steph M
I work for a pet transport company and so many people come through saying 'person x has sent my pup/cat/bird through you and I've paid and where do I go to collect?' When no such booking exists. It's preying on the vulnerable and its scummy.

Steph M
A few times a day, no joke. That or they call to book flights and call back to say the pup never existed. Its revolting and saddening.
Mrs Rusty Bucket
Steph M that's so sad. Your company could probably dedicate a web page to how to check you're getting a real puppy...
