Vet put her on Antibiotic's for a fortnight & a soluble tablet that I have to syringe into her mouth half hour before meals to help settle her tummy. Plus a strong probiotic. If no improve within 48 hours, more tests to be done. Stella was given a clean bill of health other wise. Which was great. So hopefully her tummy will start to settle now I was thrilled with her behavior though. She didn't put a foot wrong, even when she was being examined by the Vet. She even walked in. Amazing !!!! Considering usually it is a 2 person job & you'd have to carry her. Also it's kaos from the time you get her through the front door, till you leave. Last time I took her on my own she tried to jump through a closed window in the waiting room. So huge improvements there Well done, dear StelLa! And you, BC Crazy. What a sweet reward for all the TCL you give Stella. It must have been much less of a worry that Stella handled herself OK. I'll go check what it is called & let you know. I think that is what the Vet said. I too may have it wrong??? I was trying to take it all in quickly LOL. Thanks everyone for your kindness & support. Very thoughtful of you all. greatly appreciated VizslaM, yes it was so much easier for me with her today & to be able to take her on my own was a real sense of achievement for us. Felt wonderful actually. I was beaming with pride on the inside & very proud of Stella. She has come such a very long way as far as her confidence is concerned. ( certainly for humans). From what BC Crazy said, the timing of medication should work. The probiotics would be working by the time the antibiotics were given. It's not actually together as such. She slept right through the night & after toileting this morning, stool was perfect Never thought I'd be so happy to see a perfect poo on the lawn :laugh: Stella seems very happy in herself so we are on the mend be the looks. Poor girl is starving but a coupe more days on steamed chic & rice I think before I slowly reintroduce her back to 'real' food again. Such a load off my mind though. I was thinking about what could have caused this illness. We walk in the bush behind our place during the winter months & whilst she is pretty good & doesn't pick up much off the ground, she is watched like a hawk though, she does seem to like to eat this reedy looking grass a lot. Wonder if this is making her ill???? She did get a bit of a funny tummy last year from memory. Might discourage this from now on. Also might carry my own water in there as well.She loves to drink from the natural water ways but they may have bacteria in them, who knows. No Whiskered they said they'd do one if she didn't improve dramatically in 24 hours which she has. How comman is this? Might ask them to do a test. Ruth R Posted June 27, 2014 Share Posted June 27, 2014 I found this diarrhoea relief in a book it is quite effective. Please note however if it doesn't work after 36 hours at the most go to the vet. Take 2 tablespoons of corn flour or arrowroot & moisten with cold water to a thin paste in a thick bowl, preferably metal. Pour on boiling water, stirring quickly, until it clears like old fashioned laundry starch. Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of white sugar & 3 or 4 tablespoons (sml can) of evaporated milk & cool it well - an egg whisk will keep it from thickening too much. This drink can be repeated 2 or 3 times during the day until the condition clears up. If symptoms continue take the dog to the vet. Hi everyone, I know this topic has been probably done to death. What you folks do with this situation? Stella has had an upset tummy for 3 days now. The first 2 weren't very severe, just slightly loose stool. I starved her for almost 24 hours then gave her a small of steamed rice & chicken last night. My OH gave her a very small roo treat (against my wishes) & this morning she is worst then yesterday & the roo treat came out exactly the same way it went in. So she's not digesting anything slightly mucusy & very loose. I had to give her a tiny bit of steamed chicken this morning, as it is the only way I am able to give Stella her medication which she has to have 3 times a day. I have been giving her some Protexin & some Slippery Elm to try & settle her tummy down as well. Must admit I am starting to worry as this has been going on a bit long for my liking now Trip to the Vets be advisable you think??? What would they do to help her???She isn't showing any other signs of being unwell & still has a ravenous appetite. Typical lively Stella. Any advice greatly appreciated. I have just started to introduce her back to her normal diet very slowly of course. Whiskered, I did ask the Vet about that giardia & she said it would be highly unlikely that Stella is effected. Whiskered Posted June 27, 2014 Share Posted June 27, 2014 Giardia is not uncommon at all in dogs (and people) with access to untreated or contaminated water sources. I don't know what the prevalence is in your area though. Not a huge problem as far as causes of gastroenteritis goes, it resolves well with metronidazole. If Stella is still clinically well and being currently on antibiotics, I don't think it would be worth spending the money on additional testing now - it would be unlikely to provide any useful info at this stage in the course of her illness :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
