Is is because the preventatives wont be effective or do they actually cause your dog harm Giving the medication to an already affected dog can have dire consequences. Tassie Posted September 23, 2014 Share Posted September 23, 2014 Yes - should have made that clear - most important to have any dog (over 6 months I think is the recommendation) tested before giving any preventative.) My current guys have been on the preventative since they wer little, but the previous ones, who didn't start travelling until they were older, were tested before they started.
