Taping Techniques For Dislocated Tails

I have just discovered Lewis has dislocated his tail around 2 inches from the tip. I assume he did it while playing with the others a little earlier.

I am wanting some ideas for taping.

I'd wrap the whole tail and insert a couple of paddlepop sticks where the dislocated part is for stability.

Reason for taping the whole tail is so that it's harder for the bugger to wag it off.

Rather than paddlepop sticks can I suggest some box cardboard, the type that is double layered, rolled in to a cylinder around the dislocated bit, then as T said wrap the whole tail. If you run the corrugations inside the cardboard parralel to the tail they'll stop the card from bending too much and less likely to slip around than paddlepop sticks :)

hair roller, the old kind, place roller over broken bit, tape roller to tail. Very hard to get off and the roller is a buffer if he hits it against something.

thnak you all for your suggestions. I don't know of any rolelrs anywhere but will go searching at my MIL's. He doesn't seem to be in pain and will still wag the tail. It just goes to one side and does hang with it's curve like it did - I will take some photos and post later.

This is what I got from a Whippet forum I go on that many have tried and has worked for them. I will see how it goes and revisit another technique if required

He doesn't seem bothered by it at all. I will take it off in a few days just to make sure there is correct blood supply etc. but otherwise he seems very happy :)

I changed the tape today to check all was well with the skin and tail tip.

It has a reasonable lump there so hopefully that means it is calcifying/scarring up.

The tail stayed straight with the tape off which is promising.

It is now re taped and I will keep it that way for at least a few more weeks. Here's hoping it heals straight, and stays that way when the tape is removed.

Otherwise he has tolerated it extremely well and isn't worried about his taped tail.

My tentie had to have her tip docked when she was desexed and the vet nurses cut the end off and cut open a syringe and put that around it with padding. It worked excellent as a splint.
