sandgrubber
Lovely breed, rare in Oz. I would suggest advertizing on DOL mature dogs. I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone out there who wants a Catahoula and can't find one. I would be surprised if there are enough of them in Oz to justify a specialized rescue. RuralPug
This breed is not currently recognised by the ANKC, so I doubt that it would be an acceptable listing on the DOL mature pedigree pages... Not sure what state the dog is in, I would look for a reputable rescue in your state that accepts big dogs from private surrenders. There may be a wait until a foster space become available. If you can't find one then perhaps you can assist the current owners in safely rehoming the dog themselves, there are some excellent suggestions on PetRescue re do-it-yourself rehoming, what to look for in prospective new homes etc.
pepe001
They are not really rare in Qld pounds. I see them at the local RSPCA and on Gumtree regularly. Apparently, there are breeders in central Qld and also a few in SEQ. I have a BYB a few towns over that churns out a couple of litters a years - and big litters of over 10 normally. Advertise them as the ultimate large family dog - cross them with dane and bullarab. The colours attract many I guess.
Podengo
Lots of them bred as pig dogs here, usually mixed with other breeds though. Three listed on the big pet rehoming website here, a Catahoula x Bull dog, a Catahoula x Lab x Heading dog litter and a Catahoula x Collie. FM Catahoulas
Hi There, We are a registered breeder of the Catahoula. Maybe if you have any contact details of where the dog was bred, you can contact the breedes, it would be good if they take him back. If not, If you provide me with a photo I can see if someone in my friends list might have room for him. The Spotted Devil
I had a pup in one of my puppy classes. Awesome dog absolutely loaded with potential. I think the young owner was in over his head.
