Frenchie Frustration

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow dog lovers, I need your help. My 3yr old frenchie jumps up & gets in big dog faces causing the dog to get aggressive which then makes my frenchie squeal much like the sound of a pig. Then Rufus repeats the behaviour until I can get to him & pull him away. He comes across like a very aggressive dog but he is quite the opposite. Do I have any hope of re-training him? He is an only fur child & we try to socialize him at the park everyday but more often than not we have to put him back on the lead & go home after saying a lot of sorry's!

Stop going to the dog park. You need CONTROLLED socialisation. There is nothing wrong with your dog not loving random dogs at the dog park.

Can you find a good training club near you where you and your dog can go and be around other dogs on lead without forced interaction? Or even better, can you have a session with a recommended behaviourist to set up a program that will help you?

In response to your question, yes you can certainly retrain him :)

:) YOU need some training so then it can be passed on to your dog.

Please do not let him run around off leash - the next dog he annoys may not be all noise! :(

Dogs can live very fulfilling lives without bouncing on others - join an obedience club which you like the look of - practice lots of tricks at home , give him a sandpit & some soccer balls etc to bounce in/on ..and learn to walk him , in a controlled way, in interesting places. :)

My Frenchie is similar and I have to keep her under the thumb because of it when interacting with other dogs. I calll her away if she starts to bully.

He can be retrained no problems but you have to be firm with him and keep him on lead. Focus work and don't give and inch or he'll go back to old habits. Socialisation is not about letting the dog off lead to work it out for himself, it's about you showing him how to behave in situations. If he cant behave he can't go off lead, simple.

If you have problems give me a tingle. Frenchies can be classed as 'untrainable' by some but I find them actually the opposite. They're just tough little units who need firmness and consistency, remember they're a bulldog.

Many dogs also dislike the noises Frenchies make with there snorting/snuffling .They can be very forward dogs that owners often say there friendly but Frenchies can be fiesty little critters when pushed .

I have handled them in the ring & there a breed that people often treat like little Foofoo dogs when there not ,they make wonderful pets but like all dogs there animals that need to be loved as a dog but be part of the family .

I think the most obvious scenario is it stays on lead ,if you have no control why risk your dog ,you have actually taught your dog this behaviour is correct by allowing it to happen each time,he thinks its right when its not & he shows little respect for you when called.

Training is a start but remember it really is common sense ,your lead is your best friend & your dogs safety net,to come off that lead is a privelage & there is certain behaviors that come with that privilege
