There's another clip on YouTube where he's ranting in the street about people not liking him coz he's a threat to the dog training world because he's exploded the myth of treats.

Right.

Me thinks this guy is a little crazy. or a lot crazy

And stupid. Never a good combination!

I cant even watch that 'wild dog video'. Who tethers a semi feral dog like that and torments it to the point of defecation? You're right he has NO idea what he's doing.

I've had a dog that unsocialised before given to me, but I let it loose in the back yard and just walked around for ages ignoring it. We finally managed to sit down together by choice not force.

Just when you thought he couldn't be anymore horrible

On some trees he sets the dog up for failure as he pulls away to the side at the last minute :mad the poor dog could've gotten badly hurt :(

Freaky thing is strangers to dogs will get 'swayed' by this.

It is a show I saw in the UK when visiting. Friends' of friends were considering 'going' with his ways.

They are now educated correctly, and, carefully.

How on earth did he get his own show?? Far out if anyone spoke to me the way he spoke to that lady in the video he'd be in trouble, but if anyone smacked my dog, let alone hang it whack across THE FACE they'd be in hospital! :mad :mad But the thing that saddens me the most is that somewhere, there will be people who have never been taught how to train a dog, who will instate these horrendous methods upon their poor dog :(

I don't understand the purpose of walking dogs into trees?

Is it really that big a deal if your dog occasionally goes on the wrong side of a tree??? Or you could just keep it on a shorter lead....

It is very disturbing that this is shown on international TV.

Unbelievable! That's not training, the dog has no idea what he wants it to do and you're right Terri, he's setting it up for failure.

I assume its supposed to be part of his program to teach the dog that owner is "alpha" apparently by repeatedly demonstrating that the dog has no control over anything and will receive random physical abuse regularly. I dunno, most of us manage to have our dogs under pretty good control without deliberately running ourselves at trees

actually, if I am reading it right -:o it's not.

I saw it as a body awareness exercise .. a handy thing - but can be taught MUCH more gently .

We used to use a vaguely similar principle in guide dog training ... WALKING along, and brushing a bush/tree limb overhanging a footpath ..we would stop, hit the offending branch, gruffly complain..and yes, the dog would get a bit of a shock (they're not used to avoiding obstacles at human head height ;) ) .. then we would back up ..gently guide the dog around - making sure they looked up at what it was - MUCH praise when they looked ....rinse & repeat ....

I use the same principle when having a dog on a long lead .. if it goes around a post/bush etc . I increase tension , until that first step backward ..then say "back" , & praise lots ,vocally .. usually the dog gets the idea , and untangles :) Hamlet was terrific - if I saw him about to put something between he & I at a distance - I would 'stop' him , then just tell him 'back' ..& he would back up, then take off again ....

What that man was doing though could have badly injured a dog ..or himself ..and I cannot imagine someone untrained attempting it safely or effectively :(

His manner is just so brusque and condescending :( Awful.

Perse, noooo, don't compare anything you've done with this idiot!

I suppose he may have been "training" something like that but I was just reading a blog post he wrote about that "umbilical" (dog tethered to your waist) training method and its very focused on the dog physically following the human and "learning its place in the pack".

Here's a quote

"WHO WAS LEADING?

Hopefully your answer was you. But don’t fret if you were walking behind your dog, it just means that he sees you as the insignificant one in the pack. "

Head over to the Animal Planet Australia page on FB and leave your thoughts there. This show needs to be taken off TV.

Good idea, left my comment on someone's post.

That was probably mine lol.
