denali
Hi All, We will be travelling to Coffs harbour at he end of sept/early october, and was wanting general advice. Firstly, anyone know of any pet friendly accommodation? And truly pet friendly, not just "you can have pets outside tied to the balcony".. And if any of them offer anything to leave your dogs there unattended. Eg. if we were to go out for the day in a touristy way, can the dogs stay in a fenced area, or if they offer daycare type services at all. Mine could also be crated without issue inside, but i don't think many places allow dogs inside unattended. Secondly, dog friendly beaches, restaurants and activities in the area? I know a lot of NSW national parks dont allow dogs at all. And thirdly, are ticks common in coffs at that time of year? I have never had to use a tick protection her in brisbane, so dont know tick seasons lastly, any general advice is much appreciated! thank you guys. Rappie
We just returned from a short break in Coffs Harbour and saw plenty of signs for pet friendly accomodation while we were there. I'm not sure that any would let you leave pets unattended there, but there are (at least) 4 large vet clinics there - they might perhaps either do day boarding or know of a day care type facility in the area
sheena
Plenty of places that allow you to have pets, but what exactly were you looking for What type of accomcdation I don't think any would allow you to leave your dog for the day though. The only one I know of like that is Camp Tailwaggers on the Gold Coast. Yeas we have plenty of ticks up here at this time of the year especially near the coast. My dogs are on Advantix fortnightly. Tassie
The Border Collies and I stayed at Wagtails Link. Its a studio .. kitchen, bed, sitting all in one, with a lovely big bathroom, and big undercover patio. Courtyard and small garden with high fence. Lovely ladies have it all set up for dogs... in acreage area in the hinterland behind Coffs. Don't know about leaving dogs unattended, but hosts would probably have suggestions. Have a look on stays .. select pet friendly .. for more options.
dotdashdot
I don't particularly know the places to stay with a dog, seeing as I live here but possibly try Katleybarns for somewhere to look after the dogs. I'm not sure if she does day care, but she's a lovely lady and it's a very small scale kennel and it's worth asking. http://www.localdirectories.com.au/Coffs-Harbour,NSW/Katleybarns-Boarding-Kennels/profile/FJ1q There is no where else here that I would trust with my dogs, other than maybe TLC pet care, but they are having council issues and aren't quite up and running yet. They may be by October. http://www.localdirectories.com.au/Moonee-Beach,NSW/TLC-Pet-Care-Coffs-Harbour/profile/StFA As far as places to stay, maybe grab the book "Holidaying with Dogs"? Dog friendly beaches - there are many. Park Beach (south of the Coffs Creek) is where every man and his dog does. I've had good experiences there, but idiots do go there. It's off lead and plenty of swimming either in the creek or the waves. Boambee Beach is the other big one, but 4wds use this one a lot. Boambee Creek reserve is lovely, I spent hours there on Friday. It was busy (Good Friday, awesome weather) but we had the best time. This is the other end of Boambee Beach basically, it is in Sawtell (15 mins south of Coffs). I live down south, and I go to North Beach (confusing, because it's south of the main town). It's huge and open and usually very quiet. I avoid the surf club (where all the people hang out) and can have a long walk and barely see a person. 4wds can use this beach too, but it's less common unless there is a fishing comp on. There are more, but I have only taken my dogs to these ones. Ticks are a given here, you WILL need protection that time of year. I pulled 6 baby para ticks off a dog in the middle of winter last year - they just didn't go away at all. I use and recommend Advantix fortnightly. Scottsmum
Oh. I had a similar post recently ( I was considering moving there. Lots of good info in it). Also spent some time talking to a very friendly pet friendly real estate agency who specialise in holiday accomm. Cant find their details just at the moment but will post as soon as I do - as they were really really great. (and I dont think Ive ever said that about a real estate agent before) Edited to add: Link to the RE add on gumtree. Ignore the contents of the add - just get in touch and let them know what you're after http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-view-details.html?adId=1036272431 Link to the thread I posted about 6 weeks ago :) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/255996-coffs-harbour/page__p__6440014__hl__coffs__fromsearch__1#entry6440014 Edited April 22, 2014 by Scottsmum
Lhok
None of the vets here do day boarding unless you are dropping your dogs off for surgery. As far as I am aware there aren't any places that do doggy daycare here either. There are boarding kennels but trying to get in sept/oct unless you are outside the school holidays will be tough. Ticks are all year round, and there is mozzies and sandflies too, so maybe heartworm stuff might be something to consider if your dogs aren't on it. As for pet friendly accom, not sure if there are any places that will let you take your pets inside but there are pet friendly places mostly caravan parks. None of which you could leave your dogs unattended. Dog friendly off leash places there are the beaches and a large off leash park. --Lhok
