weisnjac
Trying to find an answer to this question, being told conflicting answers. I need to know (fairly urgently) if an Associate Gundog can enter a Restricted to Gundogs Obedience Trial. If anyone has a link to an answer I would be forever grateful! (I've looked, can't find )
The Spotted Devil
I'm not sure actually. Have you rung the trial secretary? That would be my first port of call as I bet they've dealt with this previously.

We are the trial secretary's  I've always thought it was no, and everyone I have asked say's no, but exhibitor says they are and have been allowed in the past. Don't want to lose an entry, but wan't to make sure we are doing this right thing.

weisnjac
Victoria. I'll call DOGS Vic Monday, but only have this weekend to do the catalogue, so was kinda hoping to get it sorted. Cheers
The Spotted Devil
Bugger. We probably know the same people in the Gundog Club then, which is not much help! Will ask around anyway.

The Spotted Devil
Asked the Group 5 folk here at the trial. They think no unless on Working Register. However it appears a few entries may have slipped through previously. Have also sent you a PM for a contact who may know.

Depends on the wording of the schedule, whether it stipulates main or limited register or not. Sporting (not Working in Vic)Register is for dogs with papers from a "kindred body" recognised by the ANKC eg Working Kelpie Assoc, associate gundogs are not in this category, they never had papers by definition, and their recognition was to allow them to participate in RATG, not in RAFT trials Breed clubs through ignorance over the years have allowed associate dogs to compete in restricted events but it should not have happened, strictly speaking associates do not have a breed as such
hairycoats
RULES FOR THE CONDUCT OF RETRIEVING ABILITY TESTS FOR GUNDOGS 2.2. Main and Limited Registered Gundogs (including de-sexed registered Gundogs) and Associate Dogs of a variety accepted by a Member Body as a Gundog shall be permitted to compete in Retrieving Ability Test for Gundogs in all States and/or Territories of Australia. This rule was brought in for associate owners to eventually purchase a purebred dog for them to hopefully be encouraged to enter Retrieving Trials. Restricted to Group Trials have always been for the Main and Limited Register only.

The schedule only states 'Restricted to Gundog'
hairycoats
I believe that past entries have not been checked and should not have been allowed. As per dragonwoman reply copied below. Breed clubs through ignorance over the years have allowed associate dogs to compete in restricted events but it should not have happened, strictly speaking associates do not have a breed as such. rubyroo
I am aware of a non registered GSP, having been assessed by a panel of experts to confirm that it was a GSP, was eventually allowed to compete in RATG only, no retreiving trials. You could post this question on http://retrieving.org.au/bb/ as this is where I believe some of the panel can be contacted. Hope this helps?
