I love the idea of Grover's name tag on your key ring, I will remember that for when I lose mine.

I haven't had to deal with losing one of my own dogs yet (although I've lost some other beloved pets). I do have collars from a select few shelter dogs I've worked with, fallen in love with and had to let go. I've kept the collars as a way to remember them. I haven't been sure what to do with them but I think I will find a nice box to keep them in and maybe when I leave the job somehow 'cremate' the collars and put them in a nice urn.

The "anniversaries" are the hardest thing, so wallow today in the sadness, but think of a few happy memories too. Our treasured dogs spend their entire lives trying to make us happy, and I know Grover wants you to have an "afterglow" moment.

"AFTERGLOW"

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is done.

I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,

and think of happy memories that I leave when day is done.

Hugs to you
