Itchy Staffie

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2yo staffy who is itchy. I have taken him to the vets and he had an antihistamine injection and has been put on steroid tablets. I have the dosage down to 1/2 a tablet every second day. I believe this allergy is a contact allergy, as we live in central Victoria, and our land is very very dry at the moment. I am hoping once we have some rain (please :D ) and the grass grows that his itch will recede.

I would like some advice on natural remedies to help with his itch. I don't really want him to be on steroids on/off/on for the rest of his life. I have read about calendula tea, but would like to hear of anything else that people find helpful.

Thanks in advance

Leec

lol, I am plugging my way through that thread right at this moment.

I might need to give you a call regarding what to buy and how to use it, if that is ok.

Cheers

Leec my pied Stafford girl gets itchy if we let the grass grow too long so hers is also contact allergy. I've just started doing calendula tea rinse on all three of our dogs (all different breeds and coat styles) and it has gone well so far. I'm still shocked by how clean and soft their coats are. Our pei girl has already starting itching again today (think I'll have to do her more regularly) but the other two are just fine.

:) …..

don't forget that if the itches persist, it means the cause for the itches persist. The calendula helps immensely in soothing and resolving the resultant skin irritations/outbreaks, but these will keep recurring until you can work out the "why's".
