Cat And Kittens Need Help In Sydney

Recommended Posts

My friend has got a mother cat and 3 kittens living in her garden. She estimates the kittens are about 3 months of age.

She has contacted both the Council and RSPCA and they are no help at all. Council doesn't have traps.

The mother herself is only a young cat, almost a kitten herself and is quite friendly.

She's still feeding the kittens who obviously aren't friendly as they aren't used to human contact.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Depends on where she is. Some vets might have a trap or a local who can help (we had a local who trapped, desexed and released) when I was vet nursing. Depending on the council they might also have a pound facility who might be able to help.

It might be a long road to trust with many a can of whiskers and sucking up to the babies.

Unfortunately there is even less help out there for cats then dogs :(

Never a truer word written !

Try Facebook under Jenny Cares for suggestions on how to deal with them. Jenny will point you in the right direction on where to get a trap and how to use it affectively. I am too far away to be of any help, even though I have knowledge. If the kittens are around 3 months old, it will take months to domesticate them to a point they can be homed. However, if mum cat is friendly and can be handled, the kittens will copy her - hence the expression 'copy cat' That is how the kittens learn. If you feed them, gradually move the bowels closer to an enclosure of some sort, including carriers so that eventually the food is at the back of a carrier. With a piece of solid string/rope tied to the door, you should be able to pull the door shut and hold it while someone else goes and secures the door. Once the feline and carriere are in a safe place, place a cover over them so the feline will settle. If you would like to PM for more information, please do. Places like Kennards Hire usually hire traps out, but not sure if Kennards are in Sydney or just Canberra.
