Setting Up A Training Area For Agility

Recommended Posts

As the title says

I am trying to work out how much yard to level out or potentially even to enclose for all season training that I don't have to pack up and mow around

What are people's thoughts on a minimum size to be worthwhile?

I am not intending to set up a whole course but a few sequences and space for contacts would be nice... I suppose a half course perhaps would be ideal? And keeping in mind that I cannot have them jumping towards walls/fencing as this will limit speed in training....

Would welcome any thoughts or guestimates on this - personal experience with your own yards or indoor arena's would be excellent too!

I would do whatever you can afford to do, no point doing a small area and needing to get the machinery back in at a later date when it's too small.

I'm managing to do heaps of mini 2 to 3 jumps sequences plus tunnels in the backyard of a 1/4 acre house block which is quite uneven. Half ring sized would be close but I have to work around the holes and troughs in the ground which makes it smaller, but I've seen some pretty amazing set ups on even smaller areas than mine.

Ideally I'd love a bigger flatter area, but this is what I have for the moment. Plus my training area is small enough to water to keep it green and have some give in it. I hate training my dogs on hard, dry ground.
