teekay
I haven't heard of this guy but someone has recommended going to this talk. Does anyone have any opinions/experience of him? poster for seminar March 2014.doc
Jed
He has segments on the radio about pet behaviour. I think it would be worth $10 to go and have a look. I see it is sponsored by the pet breeders society.
Guest Ams
I have had dealings with him. I have experience and opinions regarding him, but nothing I'd post on an open forum.
Simply Grand
He has segments on the radio about pet behaviour. I think it would be worth $10 to go and have a look. I see it is sponsored by the pet breeders society. APDT is the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, not breeders (if that's what you were referring to Jed). Rosetta
He is well known in Brisbane and one of the few vet behaviourists around. I agree with some of his views such as the idea that not comforting distressed dogs is "nonsense". However his methods of consulting are a bit confusing. Loving my Oldies
I have had personal knowledge of what he has advised. That is a relative consulted with him, he charged exorbitant fees (so much so that she was too embarrassed to tell me) and what he told her to do was a crock of shite. Jed
Thanks, Simply Grand!! I too agree about comforting distressed dogs. A lot of behavioural/training issues seem to be very faddish, and change as the years pass, then return to the original.
Loving my Oldies
There was a thread about this recently, hence the description under my name. If that is the only thing someone can find to recommend him, I'd suggest saving the $10 :) :). :)
persephone
I went to some of his stuff in another lifetime .... about cats, I believe .
Working Dog Lover
I've been to one of his seminars on separation anxiety, it was very good, very sensible information based on science. I too have personal knowledge of what he advised. Some friends sought his advice with an aggression/anxiety issue that was causing havoc in their two dog family. He consulted by phone due to distance, and the result is that their life is so much better, they're no longer having to break up dog fights in their lounge room and the dogs are much less anxious. They weren't going to call him because they'd already had a visit from a local trainer and were disappointed in his approach results, but eventually decided they needed to do something else. They're very happy with what he did for them.
teekay
Hmmmmmm I'm always interested in learning more about anxiety and reactive dogs so i would only be going for that, I have no intention of seeing him for a consult. I have been working with Luka for a long time now and pretty much know what works and what doesn't for him. It's only $10 so might be worth it just to hear what he has to say, even if it's only to sit there and think "no way I'm doing that" lol
