Do You Bring Your Dog To Cafes?

If I am having a day out with the dogs then I would take them to a cafe. I wouldn't particularly go out with them to go just to a cafe.

Haven't had any problems. Lots of oohs and arrss normally.

I wouldn't be offended by a place that said no dogs. I just suss out the place were they are welcome. A good sign is a doggy water bowl.

Have even gone out with the horses for lunch before! There is a place near here that has yards for the horses and dogs are welcome too. Railway Cafe in Seville on the Warby trail for anyone interested.

I take Nova to a particular cafe, I have been since he was a baby pup. They only opened a few months before I got him and now have a dog bowl thumbsup1.gif

The owners and staff have loved watching him grow up. It's the only cafe here that you can pay through a window outside so a few other people bring dogs there too.

I've never seen an ill behaved dog there. Nova will go to sleep under my feet while I have a coffee.

I also take him to the uni bar in the afternoon that has a whole quad of outdoor seating. Lots of students bring their dogs, they are all well behaved, bar staff bring out buckets of water for them.

The end of last year someone had this awesome border collie that was doing tricks for everyone smile.gif

If dogs are well behaved, aren't disturbing anyone and the business allows it, I don't see the problem. It's been amazing socialisation for my boy, he is great in crowds and will happily lay under/next to me and ignore people walking by.

This is him yesterday at the uni bar while I was getting a coffee, people were walking in and out past us the whole time. (I live a 5 minute walk away).

Yup! There is a brilliant dog friendly cafe about 5 minutes walk from my house so I take Elsie there all the time. She is well behaved and stays in a sit or down the whole time (except when getting cuddles from other customers and the staff!).

Wow, I've certainly never seen anyone in a shop with a dog shoved inside their t-shirt here  I also very rarely see people with dogs at the beach in the no dogs areas or with dogs offleash and it's quite uncommon to see dog poo left around as well, in fact even at the dog beach we frequent I've never seen a left behind poo. I'm starting to think it might be worse where you live.

Yes always take Abby to a local coffee shops after our walk. She just sits at our feet and looks around, there might be the occasional growl if she sees someone she objects to, last week it was a very old and slow old lady, I don't know why she took exception to her but she did just growl quietly.f she does that I normally get her to look at me and say 'quiet' that's enough to settle her.

Coogee is very dog friendly and I take my three to a cafe after the ocean walk almost every day. The one I go to has superb coffee and food and little buckets of water for your dog. :) As long as they are well behaved I don't see the issue with it.

I used to take one of mine to the outdoor tables at the market cafe, she loved it but she used to tap on the cafe window with her paw to get the attention of the people at tables inside and then smile at them when they turned to look at her. It got embarassing.

When I was a kid I used to sometimes put the dog in my jumper to go into the local covenience store to get mum some milk or bread or I would just carry her under my arm sometimes too. They never had an issue with it, i constantly seemed to have to run errands and as a kid there was no way in hell I wasn't going to take my little mate with me lol. I think I did that in all the shops but I think they didn't care as I was one of the local kids and always very polite.

Only been to a couple with Didi but she's been fine. In fact we just caught the train to the city to catch up with a friend over some Italian. Didi is a pretty placid puppy and will just lie down or stare at people with her puppy dog eyes until they pat her. She's also awesome on the train and just lies down though Im not sure I'll be able to take her out as much when she's fully grown as she'll be kind of big to maneuver under tables/might scare patrons.

Can you take dogs on public transport in Victoria?

Never with my old girl - it wasn't her thing. She wasn't social or interested in being out doing people things. We do take Scottie when we're out specifically for a meal and its convenient, but I am fussy as to where (e.g., not on a main road, somewhere he can have some sun, somewhere he can get out of the way - yes we have a cafe that fits the bill).

Yes you can. Unfortunately now they have introduced a rule that says they must be muzzled which would turn me off completely, in the past you didn't need to

Hmm I was unaware of the muzzle thing as no dog I've ever seen has worn one and ticket inspectors/station staff haven't said anything... don't really want to catch the train if it means she needs a muzzle as I find this makes people unecessarily afraid of her/she is just a puppy and doesn't need one.

On regional trains only small dogs in a crate. It's sizeist!

Wouldn't worry us greyhounds are muzzled by law anyway. That's interesting I never knew that, do you have to buy them a ticket?

Nope as long as you have a valid ticket they are allowed on metro trains. You are just advised not to travel at peak times/not allowed on the seats and must clean up mess etc. which is all more than fair enough.

Cool thanks for the info Terri, I'm heading down with the greys in a couple of months. I think Stan and Maddie might like a train trip into the city :)

Yes but mainly to a couple of places that are not cafés per se as they don't serve meals. One is Bourke St Bakery and they have big tables out front and another place is a coffee roasters and they have a couple of bench seats out front (both are dog friendly) and we stop here on the way home from the beach.

I don't do busy cafés as having a giant breed they don't exactly fit under tables and heads are at table height.

If we are out then I always take a Snooza futon and use the bed command. I may also bribe with pieces of croissant.
