CrazyCresties
I'm just soaking some of this to try for the first time - I have a kilo of roo meat and calculated I should add about 330g of complete mix in with it (after soaking in 330ml of water). Does that sound about right? It looks like I will end up with a mix with a lot of grain in it. I know it is designed to pass through them and not be digested, but it still looks like a lot I have been feeding Louis the RAW 76 packs for the past weeks or so and he is loving those, but thought I would try the complete mix and meat too. OSoSwift
hmmmm I will work out what my mix was I thought it was less than that, but yes there is a fair bit of the VAN mix, especially when you compare it to the cats mix, they have quite a bit more meat. The grain is meant to be digested from VAN, that's why it's crushed and you pre soak it to start the fermentation process. The idea is that it replicates the dog eating the partly digested stomach contents of an animal it caught. Here's some extra info on the why's :) Grains in VAN... Thanks OSO - just found this in the link Roova posted, so it sounds about right. :) The cat mix has only 10% grain/vegetable matter (dry weight), and the dog mixes vary from 15% (puppy) to 20-25% for adult and senior dogs. This is an accurate reflection of the normal carbohydrate intake of a wild dog, and is presented to the dog in a state that it would naturally digest it. Thanks Roova, good link :) It was the whole oats I was thinking of that he mentions here. http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56&Itemid=71 The other very simple form of faecal bulk I use, is whole grain oats and vegetables. Whole oats and vegetable fibre are indigestible, and will pass through a dog’s digestive tract and appear in the faeces . Using a natural diet like Vets All Natural Complete Mix, or even adding a tablespoon of whole oats (husk and all) to any soft food diet, will create good firm stools at the other end. The end result, pardon the pun, will be normal functioning anal glands.
