Yes and the first one which was aimed at reducing euthanasia in shelters.

Many of the recommendations in the latest document were from the taskforce. None of the breed-specific ones were in there.

I've read it back to front numerous times and made a submission on it personally and on behalf of an organisation. These breed specific recommendations are not in there. You can either just believe me or read it yourself, it's up to you.

Sorry but there is no immediate threat to any dog that I own or breed. I might need to register annually and display a microchip when advertising but my happy well adjusted ANKC and Council registered dogs are in no danger.

You do realise they are looking to add more breeds to the menacing and restricted list? Why exactly do you feel your pedigree dogs would not be subject to this? They will be the first ones to be caught up as they are easily identified as of said breed. You do realise that pedigree dogs are banned and restricted in many countries around the world?

Because the deal was done long ago when Dogs NSW the then Canine Council made sure that ANKC registered breeds were exempt.

Providing my animals do not menace, rush, attack, then there is no danger to them being declared restricted or dangerous.

And yet here we are, with the NSW Government specifically looking to add more breeds to the restricted and new 'menacing' list. Which non-ANKC breeds do you think they are aiming for? They pretty much have already nailed 'non-ANKC' with the five listed.

As much as your complete arrogance and ambivalence to the subject infuriates me (especially since you own and breed one of the Bull Breeds), I will continue to fight for your dogs and do everything in my power to prevent this occurring.

Thank you. I knew you just needed some encouragement to do it Melzawelza.

I'm still confused as to why you think it was my responsibility to baby you through it in the first place, seeing as you were the one that insisted the taskforce must have recommended it, but then refused to actually just look at it yourself. But hey, no worries. I'm used to doing things for those who are incapable of doing even the most simple of tasks themselves. :)

If there were any danger of ANKC recognised breeds being added to any lists, Dogs NSW would be doing back flips and the like. They have been to their meeting and have nothing bad to report home with. At worst they feel we may have to abide by a licencing scheme, should there be any risk to our breeds, we would know about it by now.

Yep, I'd be worried if I owned a cross bred or an animal without papers but I don't I chose wisely a long time ago. BSL was never going to be over turned.

And yet here we are, with an advisory group being tasked to specifically look at which breeds to add to the list, and a recommendation to expand the dogs banned for import into the country. I think you have a real false sense of security going on and it's very sad.

ETA what's even sadder is that you don't care about dogs as a whole, only pedigrees. Like I said, I will continue to work to ensure that no dog, pedigree or mutt, is killed based on it's appearance. It has been overturned all over the world and will happen eventually here.

There is no immediate threat to all dogs and owners. This has nothing to do with me or my Pug, it's about Breed Specific Legislation and 'menacing' dogs.

I suppose I'm going to be accused of being pro-BSL now because I refuse to be swept up in all the drama.

Point is though, they can decide whenever they like to add pugs or (insert any other breed here) to the restricted list.

Sure they may be no urgency right now but these things happen behind the scenes and before you know it, it does affect you.

I'm sorry, I thought that had always been the case. Is this a new thing?

It would have required a hell of a lot more work and legislative changes previously. Now that the minister has snuck in the provision to declare a breed or kind of dog as 'menacing' with the recent changes to the Act it is as simple as a flick of the pen and it's done.

On top of that, they are now actively tasking an advisory group to identify and recommend breeds or kinds of dog that should be added to both the menacing and restricted list, as well as writing to the federal parliament to to attempt get the customs act updated to ban for import any more breeds they decide on.

And what if some future government decides to ban all brachy breeds? Wedges have thin ends....................I am not currently worried about my breed but care deeply about some breeds that friends have and their right to enjoy owning healthy, happy well trained and socialised dogs..........................we are all just a pen stroke away..................

The group to consider whether additional breeds should be added to the Restricted breeds list. Restricted breeds have even more onerous keeping requirements than Menacing dogs, with the addition of the requirement to keep the dog in a purpose-built enclosure in the backyard that restricts who can access the dog and costs easily $3-4k to construct. Restricted breeds cannot be rehomed.

That's no done deal. The sky is not falling....at least not yet. It certainly bears watching but don't forget that you've got at least three members of the Taskforce who are on paper as being opposed to BSL. It won't be a steamroller job.

Panic wont help anyone. Neither will the suggestion that all dog breeds are at equally at risk. This calls for cool heads and careful strategy, not headless chicken impressions.

Have we got a timeframe for the group to hand down the findings of its considerations? Seems to me that the suggestion that there is an immediate threat to all dogs and owners is overcooking this considerably. Scaremongering really won't help here

Thats the thing, it's fine to say "it doesn't affect me" but as someone who loves dogs don't you care about all the innocent dogs and owners that will be affected?

About the fact the government is slowly taking more and more of our dog owning freedoms away?

Thanks for explaining, though I still cant see how it could affect me.
