Guest hankodie
I've noticed the skin between Odie's wrinkles has been looking a little red and inflamed the last couple of days. I clean them regularly (usually once a day) so it must be a recent flare up. They are a little smelly but otherwise not bothering her too much. Any ideas on how I can clear up the inflammation topically? I've only gently cleaned them with some salt water and patted them dry, is there anything else I can do? Odie has liver shunts so I'd rather not put her on any steroids if we can help it, especially since I had to put her on a course of prednisone not too long ago for her allergies. Any advice from fellow owners who have flat faced breeds?
Nekhbet
I use iodine wash on my pug, clears up minor infections and helps dry the skin.
Guest hankodie
I use iodine wash on my pug, clears up minor infections and helps dry the skin. Thanks Nekhbet. It's not too bad of an infection I just don't want it getting worse. Would diluted iodine be the same thing? Edit: sorry diluted betadine, not iodine. Have some handy here, otherwise I can run to the chemist Edited January 10, 2014 by hankodie
Nekhbet
yeah that should be fine, I got her an iodine shampoo and wash her in it, then give her a good dry so there's no moisture left at all. No smell, redness or itching. She needs it since we moved, there's little grass and now she's ploughing through garden beds lol
~Anne~
I use Malaseb and a damp cloth for Oliva's facial folds. She is prone to problems in the folds. I leave it for a while then dry it throughly.

Guest hankodie
Big thanks for the advice all :) I've gently been cleaning her face with diluted betadine and it looks a lot better today, much more dry and not as red. Poor Odie has really been in the wars lately! If it's not one thing it's another luckily I have all you lovely dol people who offer the best support & have a wealth of knowledge :D thanks again
