Diva
Sorry, there is such a thing as a donation. As a deductible registered charity we are given donations specifically for our rescue dogs. I do not want my personal dogs on an account that donors pay for. Very sensible, surely if organisations have tax deductible status they would want to be very careful to keep their own dogs' costs clearly separate, lest the tax man come a'knockin. I don't think the rules around tax deductability allow for one's own pet dogs' costs. But really mixing up of private and rescue expenses is the type of issue that makes me donate elsewhere these days, it really is too open to rorting and too hard to sort out the wheat from the chaff. _PL_
I knew that would tease you! Let me get a couple more adopted (it's been totally frantic since I listed them) and give me a bell. You can sit and wear puppies all over you. I'll even make you a cup of tea. :D Sorry to go off topic everyone.

minimax
Why are rescue dogs so expensive? Expensive compared to ... what?
kelpiecuddles
There are often a lot of costs associated with rescuing a dog, they are often not desexed and have a sketchy or unknown vaccination and worming history, they may have been not well cared for and need dental work or other treatment, then of course the costs of feeding and housing them and the costs associated with transporting dogs from the pound to the rescuer and then to the new owner. Perry's Mum
We do not generally charge for our rescue dogs but some, but not all people, give us a donation. The dogs have to be fed, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and heart worm tested, wormed as a basis and then on top of that many have other injuries or health issues which need to be treated. They also have to be housed and exercised and in some cases given basic training and socialisation. This costs money. If you buy a pup from a breeder you still have all these costs on top of the purchase price. We are asking for a donation in this case to cover the vet costs because there were so many all at once and we did not have enough money to pay the vet bill. tdierikx
Why are rescue dogs so expensive? Depends what you call "expensive"... Factor in how much you would pay a vet to vaccinate, desex, thorough health check and fixing any little thing that came up on that check, microchip, then factor in feed, exercise, basic training (both house and obedience), etc, etc... what would you expect to pay for all that? Then factor in an entire litter of pups that require all of that, and numerous older dogs that may need even more that the above before they are available for adoption... I think that $500 for a happy, healthy, and well socialised pup of ANY breed or mix is quite reasonable, don't you? Crossbreed dogs are sold for much more than that on Gumtree - with NONE of the above things done already... now, that's expensive! T.
Weasels
I've spent more on a load of groceries than i spent buying Weez, who's made me smile every day for over 3 years and hopefully will for at least another 10. Bargain of a lifetime IMO.
Perry's Mum
Koolie Rescue has a separate account with the vet and we are always in debt to her. She never gives out details. We could possibly arrange for the parents to be inspected if the people want to go down to Echuca. I am trying to get photos.
