Neil Weeks brought the Basset Fauve De Bretagne to Australia but also showed Standard Smooth Dachshund and Whippets. He was a fierce competitor in the ring but a generous and loving man outside of it. Without him I would never have become an exhibitor or a breeder and I'm not the only one to say that. He entrusted me with a Fauve when there were only 7 in the country - at the time I truly didn't recognise the enormity of that gift - a main registered bitch in my own name for the price of a pet. He taught me that you have to trust people, even if they may do the wrong thing in the future, because you never know which "show occasionally" home may turn into a guardian of the breed. Salukifan Posted December 24, 2013 Share Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) Passionate about his dogs, intolerant of fools and executer of some rather spectacular dummy spits in the ring :laugh: Neil was no saint but he was a decent open hearted man who fought a long and hard battle against cancer with inspirational dignity and courage and he made it to shows to see his beloved Fauves even in very frail health. One of the true local characters and the kind of breeder whose openness to sharing his lines has meant that his hard work to establish the Basset Fauve in this country will live on. He also brought in a damn fine Whippet in Krakka. Farewell Neil - you will be missed and your legacy in Fauves is one breeders should aspire to. My condolences to his family and close friends. I am so glad I made the trip to the Canberra Royal this year and met him and Susan and then to win BOB against 14 other Fauves. He was so pleased to see his girl win. The pain is over now and may he be at peace with all his dogs which have been waiting for him in the park over the rainbow bridge. To a man who taught me so much about dog showing, you will be missed dearly. A regular competitor in Alice Springs, always willing to help, teach & enjoyed the world of dog showing, where just attending & sharing the experiences was the most important thing.
