White Dog Needing Sunscreen

Hi all, just a quick question.

A family friend of ours owns an old lab (georgeous boy too) who's got a pink nose, and they explained to me that was because it got sunburnt and now they have to put sunscreen on it. I've noticed on my dog, a white Australian cattle dog (or Blue heeler) cross Kelpie that there isa slight discolouration of her nose. Do i need to buy her some type of dog appropraite sunscreen to prevent burning? If so can anyone recommend a brand and where I can buy it from. I do wonder though if sunscreen would actually do anything, since i'd expect her to lick it off as soon as i put it on.

The one I use sometimes if my dogs are out in the sun at trials, is Virbac. I bought mine online but you might be able to get it at a horse supplier. It is very thick & would be hard to lick off.

I use Coles 50* baby sunscreen & it works very well. I found the Virbac good but very difficult to remove & very messy :)

There is also Vetbasix Sunscreen, should be sold in most pet stores (my one does). I've used it on my dally's nose, it's quite thick so it won't come off by itself, but not so thick it can't be removed. It's also got bitterant so dogs don't want to lick it off.

I only use it on the dog with lack of pigment. Black noses are not worried about. I use zinc, it lasts longer.

Hi all :) I managed to find the Vetbasix sunscreen, but couldn't find any virbac. I also found another product called Petkin Doggy Sunstick but it didn't have in the description if it contained things to stop licking. (My dog's a BIG licker) Thanks for the help guys

It's called Filta-Clear, and there is an antibacterial version called Filta-Bac, it's made by Ceva who own Nature Vet brand

I use Banana Boat Mineral Protect Kids 30+ SPF on Zeus's muzzle. Even though he has a black nose, his muzzle only has a very fine layer of white fur and he likes to sunbake. It's quite a thick sunscreen and he doesn't lick it off.

If the Lab is yellow and has a pink nose, chances are its genetic, not sunburn. It's what they call a Dudley nose

Nonetheless, sunscreen its a great idea. I'd go with a horse product.
