Red Bumps On Dogs Face

Hi,

My dog (Irish wolf hound/ Bullmastiff) has small red bumps on his face under his left ear. They have been there for about 1 month. Pimple like, about the size of half a tic tac and covers an area the size of 2 match boxes.

They were very inflamed at the start but has gone down as I have trimmed the fur in this area and applied Betadine diluted with water and Relief and healing cream (HOPES RELIEF) to try and help.

At this time I cant afford to take him to the vet but just want find out what this may be and if there is anything else you could recommend. It doesn't seem to be bothering him but he has been scratching the area from time to time. Nothing out of the ordinary.

He doesn't have fleas or mites and ATM he is wearing a flea collar.

I would really appreciate your advise.

My guess is the flea collar is the culprit. Some dogs are allergic to flea collars and break out in sores. Flea collars don't work anyway. I would ditch the flea collar straight away and hopefully the pimples and inflammation should clear up.

Hi,

Thanks for the advise but I put the flea collar on him the day I noticed this... hummmm

Im going to book him in for the vet within the next week or so.

I was thinking its Hives but his not scratching like crazy... Im sure the vet will just give him some pills.

In the meantime, frequent daily applications of Calendula Tea. You never know …. this might just do the trick in helping them to heal and you may not even need the visit to the Vet. If they recede/dissappear but a fresh lot spring up, you know there is a continued underlying cause. At the very least, the Calendula Tea rinse will help to sooth and ease discomfort and due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities will help to prevent secondary infection.

Edited to add : Unless fleas are a particular issue, I'd be inclined to ditch the flea collar. It may not have been the initial cause but it could (possibly) contribute as an aggravation. Avoid any chemical applications wherever possible and avoid shampoos.

Thanks so much for your advise! I've been continuing the application on him since I last posted and they seem to be disappearing!

If a new lot do come up ill be taking him to the vet for antibiotics but so far so good!

It's nice that people do care and try to help... I posted on yahoo answers and all I got was "we are not vets, take him to the vet".

It's not like his is uncomfortable and I know there are always organic ways to help these things!

My suggestion ….. if a new lot come up, get onto them with the Calendula Tea straight away - the earlier the better.

Antibiotics don't cure - if the cause remains, the symptoms will keep returning. I use Calendula Tea to keep the symptoms at bay and to help stop them becoming secondary infection whilst I'm working out what the cause actually is so I can work to resolve it. Antibiotics have their place, but they do have an affect on the system and if that affect impacts further, the situation can become cyclic. If the Calendula Tea didn't make a difference and things appeared to be worsening, maybe then I'd consider antibiotics, but cautiously. I'm really pleased you're finding the Calendula Tea is helping :).
