Aloveen Shampoo And Itchy Dog?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I hadn't washed my dog for probably a good 3 months but four days ago I did. As usual I used the Aloveen oatmeal shampoo. Since then she has been scratching and chewing like mad and she hadn't been doing that before I washed her. No fleas. I have had a sneaky suspicion for the last year or so that the shampoo might make her itchy as it's been getting worse and because I hadn't washed her for so long I'm almost certain now it's the culprit. Could this be possible? If so, does anyone have any good suggestions on what I could try instead? Moo goo crossed my mind actually...

I use Aloveen shampoo and conditoner on my dogs and they scratch for the rest of the day after their bath. They rarely scratch at any other time. It never occurred to me that it could be the Aloveen because it's such a gentle shampoo.

I'll use a different shampoo and conditioner for their next bath and see if they scratch.

Seen the same reaction in many dogs over the years, one was my Maltx. The shampoo is the problem not usually the conditioner. I always warn my grooming customers if they want me to wash their dogs in Aloveen.

Try Pet Head oatmeal and aloe instead, smells nice and I haven't had a reaction yet even from my poodle that is seeing the skin specialist.

I've had a couple dogs that are allergic to oatmeal so yes it is possible.

I haven't had problems with it with my itchy boy, I also use the natural shampoo and have also started Virbac Episooth. I also like the blackmores paws range.

Haven't tried moogoos pet shampoo but I use their human stuff!

I used to use Aloveen. My itchy dog goes to a dermatologist vet now.

She recommends washing him with QV wash and rinsing him afterwards with a solution of QV bath oil and water. I also asked her about the calendula tea that Erny recommends and she agreed that it is very soothing. So I often rinse with that after washing him too. Thanks Erny! :D

ETA: QV wash and QV bath oil are human products available from pharmacies. Fairly inexpensive and PH balanced. They're used to soothe exzema etc in humans, so not harsh on the skin at all.

I recently bought some Ivory Coat Sensitive Shampoo and conditioner for my itchy pup while we were transitioning to a grain free diet, it hasn't got any oatmeal in it. http://ivorycoat.com...sitive-shampoo/

It seemed to help sooth him after I rubbed it into his itchy paws too. Bonus is it smells fantastic!

That one does look good, I think ill be trying that next.

I used Aloveen on my last lab and it was amazing for her she had no skin issues though apart from the odd dry skin. My current lab with her sensitive skin, yes Aloveen does make her itchy. Im currently using Fido's Herbal.

Wow this thread makes me prick my ears up, my dog had been itching like crazy for a while not that long ago and I puzzled and puzzled over what could be causing it, after reading this thread it dawned on me she had a bath with the Aloveen shampoo not long before the itching started... I can't say for sure that's what caused it, but it will be interesting to try a different shampoo and see if she doesn't itch from that.

Interesting, i mostly use Aloveen shampoo, even the leave in conditioner for special occasions, and Cavs can be itchy type dogs.. but i cant say we have had any issues that i have noticed using it. Usually the Cavs have been itchy prior to washing them but haven't gotten any worse after.

I don't know if there was specifically a pet range I just was thinking that maybe it might be worth a shot in trying the human stuff.

Yep there is, it's called Dr Zoo thumbsup1.gif

Oh, thank you!!! I had no idea they had a separate site for the pet stuff, just thought they weren't making it any more. Brilliant. :D
