2014 Training Goals

 Share

Recommended Posts

A first draft:

Overall:

I'm not fussed about titles, I just want my dogs to be happy, healthy and live the best lives they can. I commit to:

* One walk each morning, in addition to the walks with dog walkers.

* One short training session each evening (agility, scent detection, balance equipment or tracking).

Fergus:

* Start trialling in agility. He has been ready for ages but his hooman needs to get her act together. Should be possible to get at least JD and AD given that we're now in a training level with Excellent and Masters dogs.

* Continue to build distance handling skills.

Lucy:

* Figure out if agility is the sport for her. She wags her tail but has trouble with it. If it isn't, swallow my pride and give DWD a go.

* More tracking training as she loves it. Might even give a trial a go.

* Scent detection games.

I'm hoping 2014 is our year!

Cleo (Edinglen New Sensation)

I really want some titles before and after her name!

-Do the endurance test (note: buy a bike that WON'T break after 3 rides)

-Join the agility club and get started with that

-Finish off her neuter title (6/100 points)

Nala (Neilros Jaznala)

-do the puppy class with the obedience club

-get some points in the show ring! (wont happen until April when she's 6 months old boo)

-have a ton of fun with my gorgeous baby!

 We need some newbies in the class...just waiting to get enough numbers to start a new beginners class :)

Every year I regret not setting goals in these threads, so here goes :)

Pep

Although she has a couple of jumping passes, I've not trained or trialled her myself, so...

Build her drive up for agility

Teach her contacts

Get her into the ring happy :)

Fly Agility

Keep all the enthusiasm she currently has

Teach her to turn at speed laugh.gif

AD, JD, SPD, SD, GD

Fly Sheep

Teach her to walk to the peg like a sheepdog, not an agility dog embarrass.gif

Get her casting in trials like she does in the paddock at training

Sharpen up her off balance sides

A couple of scores & a pen or 2

Lass Agility

Teach her to weave properly

Some distance training

AD, JDX, SPD, SD, GD

Lass Sheep

Strengthen her walk up

Make a Novice final

Give me a baby sheepdog just as perfect as she is

Trim

Keep her fit & healthy

Start her retirement (hopefully without pissing her off too much)

Me

Spend some more training training my own dogs

Xena

Continue trialling her and keep her fit. Keep the fun in what we do and NOT focus on our results.

In the process it would be nice ad add X's to all her 'D' agility titles and get her ADO and JDM.

Just keep running her in ADAA events and keep working towards her Gamblers and Snooker titles. (7 passes for each - not easy when you use them towards games dog and Masters titles.)

Perhaps enter a couple of herding trials as well. :)

CK

Just have fun with my boy and keep teaching him new tricks/keep him happy in the agility ring.

Wikki

Continue to build drive and keep it fun for her. Again, not focus on results, but focus on the journey and let the results come as they will.

If that works out she'll have her ADAA Champion title by the end of the year and be running like I know she can - FAST! (We only need three more Q's.)

Me........

Start off a new puppy without expectations and just create fun for the puppy. Build on the buckets of natural drive the puppy will have.

Put in a good showing at the IFCS WAC in the Netherlands and have some fun in the states on the way. :)

Me: get my act together, sharpen my handling, deal with my nerves and get back into the ring!

Note how what I know I need to work on, is me, not the dog (she's pretty good)

Now that I will keep you to

Have taken the first step and contacted the club to enroll Cleo in the agility and Nala in the puppy class  to me who is usually hopeless with doing these things in a timely fashion.

Kaos

- Keep him running fast and happy and healthy

- Improve our handling and understanding of handling - tight turns, running lines, rear crosses, being where I need to be to give him information

- JDM, SD, JDO, passes towards ADM

Nitro

- Work on tugging and focus in all environments - aim to be able to tug properly in the middle of classes and trials

- Get our retrieve good enough to be able to use thrown rewards in training

- Start proper obstacle work

- continue to improve our body awareness exercises

- aim to be able to do some work at agility classes

RUBY

* A pass in UD obedience would be glorious!!!! I won't hold my breath, though crazy.gif

* Might step up the agility training with her again and go all out and aim for ADX and JDM titles. We'll see laugh.gif

MILLIE

* Let's go for broke - ADX and JDM titles! Been aiming for that ADX for a while now, it's seeming like a big ask!

PIPPA

* AD and JDX titles

* CD title if I ever decide to enter her into obedience for real!

* Might give Rally-O a crack and aim for RN as well

A relatively short "wishlist" for 2014 compared to other years, but still a big ask of the kids. Most of all, keep having fun and stay healthy :)

Lovely to read everyone's goals. RallyValley and RubyStar - look forward to watching you and your girls in the ring!

I'm been thinking about our goals this year for several weeks now...

ZAZU

Zazu is 90% retired now. She may enter the occasional Rally Novice B class if it is offered. Otherwise, maybe competing in Veterans class at the National Sleddog Races in South Australia this year - depending on her joints.

KYTE

  • JD title (1 more pass required)
  • CCD title (2 more passes required)
  • RA pass
  • Learn to weave
  • AD pass
  • compete in touring class at the National Sleddog Race in SA this winter

Most importantly, I would like to see a happy, confident dog in the ring during heel work. :crossfingers:

My goals for 2014 are to work up to getting Zeus to the possibility of a novice agility title. So far we're just complete noobs to the sport but he's a fast learner and I'm hoping with hard work I'll be trialling by the end of the year.

Kirah, I'm determined will learn to sit and stay for longer than 3 seconds and to stop her annoying bum shuffling closer to me! I'm undecided if I want to try her in agility classes again or to trial her in obedience.

With both Rusty and Biscuit I have a lot of work to do! Before the rain we were doing weav3 entries, which still needs a lot of work, and I am currently watching 2 on off contacts made easy which looks quite good...but I can alresdy tell biscuit is going to be quite a challenge haha he doesnt like to stay still! So my training goals for both boys are to have fairly reliable contacts, and nice weave entries with reliable weaves. But competition goals for them:

RUSTY

ADO

JDO

ADX

and hopefully ET if I can get to the trial, and if it's actually run this year!

Forgot to add, might even aim for CDX!

BISCUIT

ADO

JDO

2 or 3 passes in ADX or JDX would be nice :)
