Feeding Hearts

Our Coles has a lot of lamb, chicken and cow hearts in the pet food section that are always crazy cheap. Is there any issues with feeding these as a bulk portion of their meal or would they be considered offal and should only be fed in small amount? Our dogs get a frozen meat filled long each morning and a small amount of dry and various toddler leftovers at dinner. Doof can't tolerate bones so always looking for new cheap meat for him!!

You should be fine feeding hearts as a main meal; heart is a muscle meat, not an offal!

Heart is a fantastic meat, I feed mine heart at least two or three times a week. They can be quite bloody though so you might want to start easy as it can cause loose poo if introduced too quickly and in large portions. :p

Excellent thanks! I thought it would be muscle meat but wanted to check. I can usually get them for about $2/kg so glad I can use them as the bulk part of their meat!

Ours get a heart or two (for the boofer) as a meal sometimes :)

I buy lamb/beef hearts from woolies. My husband trims the excess fat off them and chops them up so we can give Miah some, and also to the cats (not every day)

We bag serves up (enough for Miah and the cats) and store them in the freezer till we need them. Then i get them and after they have defrosted i give some to the cats and the rest to Miah with less of whatever meal shes having that night. Have no issues feeding her it :)
