Some of us are not so lucky. Frankly, from the little I know, I'd consider someone who texts while driving or drives intoxicated as culpable as this guy. This. A lot of people can't imagine themselves in this guy's position but Sandgrubber has given a good example with a few bad driving decisions which are a little closer to home for some. I don't know what happened. I have no perspective from which to form an opinion. I don't know if the guy grew up in a culture that praised Amundsen for his disasterous trip to the South Pole. For all I know, he was PTSD and semi-suicidal when going out alone into the wilderness with his dog. I don't know if he stowed food properly and the bear went to extraordinary and unknown heights to steal his cache. I don't know if the reporter made the whole thing up. I just get sick of people getting on their high horses and judging others when they've been presented with what is at best a cartoon sketch of a situation. I read it as kicking someone who is down. To quote a few of the more sensible lines in the Bible:"Judge not and ye shall be not judged" . . ."do unto others as you would have them do unto you"..."let he who is without sin cast the first stone". What does that change? I don't see anyone in here claiming they've never made a mistake? What I do see is people saying they wouldn't take their dog out there in the first place and that if the guy couldn't even last a few days he was unprepared. You're using a quote from the bible, about judgement, to make a judgement about the posters in this thread - which is kind of funny if you ask me. Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about. It doesn't make sense. This is an unusual and controversial topic. Of course people are going to be in all kinds of different places about it. Quite interesting reading. Some people would be prepared to let the bear kill their dog so they could get away. Some value their dogs too much to put them in harm's way. I'm with the latter. Its why I don't walk my dog off lead anywhere, especially not on busy roads like Pennant Hills or Ryde Roads but I see people doing it every day ... I also don't text whilst driving or drink and drive. My own car was written off in June, I lived to tell the tale - luckily. The texting P Plater was also just fine ... This is a public forum, this bit of which is specifically to discuss news stories. I don't see how that is possible without expressing opinions based on those stories. People were giving their thoughts on the situation, based on the news article and/or some further googling probably. Even if everyone had every bit of relevant information their opinions would most likely still differ. I think expressing personal opinions based on a news story are a totally different thing to basically making fun of someone else, who is posting about asking some who they perceive to have more experience in the topic at hand to gain another perspective. Also in my opinion totally different to proclaiming everyone who is commenting knows nothing about the topic. I genuinely didn't see most of the previous posts as kicking someone when they were down, in fact many said they wouldn't like to be in his situation, but still couldn't imagine eating their dog. I am sorry Sandgrubber but I don't understand your analogies in this context so can't comment on them as I can't make the link between texting/drink driving and getting lost in the bush and not being prepared for it. My comments were not just aimed at you either,but at anyone being outrightly rude - but I am afraid I don't buy the line from your previous post about if you can't take the mickey don't post, you missed my point totally - it was that you SHOULD be able to post, particularly if you are just posting an opinion you hold, not something you are claiming as fact, without being jumped on or people being personally rude to you, simple as that. I am perfectly happy for people to disagree with my opinions, they do it all the time. I just genuinely don't understand the name calling and snide remarks, that is all.
