jennabub
Hi, hoping for some advise - I have a 10 month old American bulldog who had luxating patella surgery grade 4- 9weeks ago and goes back into surgery Wednesday for surgery on her other back leg grade 3-4. Her right leg that she has already had surgery on is brilliant and healed beautifully. My question is - does anyone know of a supplement that i can give her that will help ward of early onset of arthritis. Being so young and having had 2 patella surgeries I'm worried about arthritis at a young age . Any advice will be appreciated.
Nekhbet
See what your surgeon recommends. It can come down to muscle mass, gradual exercise and low body fat helping long term as well with dogs of that size and leg problems. Keep the diet as natural and fresh as possible to help nourish the whole body not just the joints. I use the human glucosamine/chondroiten/MSM capsules and powders at 1500mg a day for a dog of that size. Sprinter Gold Energy E is fabulous as it contains Vitamin E which prevents byproducts of omega oils causing mischief :p they're a natural part of the metabolism of fats. Kajtek
Consider stem cell therapy - a bit $ but worth a try. It works miracles on some dogs. My elderly bully is much, much better after the treatment.
ness
Have had my girls on Rose-Hip Vital Canine. My youngster has bilateral luxating patellas and has had surgery to fix one but its the only thing that seems to be keeping her off the heavy meds for extended periods of time. My old girl has been on the RHVC for 6 months had just had surgery to repair a ruptured cruciate. Edited October 22, 2013 by ness

jennabub
Tinker had her surgery for her left leg on the 23rd and the specialist said it was actually worse than he originality thought and even though he us very pleased with how the surgery went she us in a lot of pain . Much worse than her right leg and we thought that was bad enough. Thanks for the suggestions and will definately be trying the rose-hip vital canine . I don't care if she walks a little weird I just want her not to be in pain anymore .
