persephone
:) Most of the dogs have been 'out bush' camping rough with the boss for the week ... working VERY hard mustering/trapping feral goats ...they came home last night ..and haven't moved (apart from mealtimes) .... Lovely!!...... and there are several hundred feral goats on their way to the meatworks . One of our girls was also missing a whole day in very thick scrub .....poor thing, we presume she had found a small number of goats and had shepherded them along all day ....no doubt wondering just where she was supposed to be taking them .. ( in known paddocks, she is left with large mobs of sheep for a couple of hours at a time , and keeps them 'on track' towards yards , etc )... only travelling a long way back to the camp after dark ..minus goats .... Impressive, as they hadn't been there previously . We have had that happen before with a dog ..we'd given him up .... and after he returned home 24 hrs later ... we backtracked , and found where he had a small mob of sheep ..and had kept with them ...... Thankfully this happens rarely ..this is only the third time in many many years .
mixeduppup
Isn't that the best sound! Working dogs just sleeping instead of barking at the end of their chains or in their kennels? Your time is not long, enjoy it :D I love those dogs that can be trusted out of sight to do their thing. That girl would be worth her weight. Congrats on the goat moneys! You can buy a swimming pool! persephone
Pay bills, more like .... *sigh* . yes, dogs that can work independently are just treasures !! This girl has a bit of the killer instinct which shows sometimes ...(like sneakily eating most of my guineafowl as a youngster) but she is fantastic at the all-day ,long distance stuff ..just plods along and concentration doesn't waver. Yes, silence is golden . They'll be off again next week for a shearing gig on a large property ...
