What's The Most Frustrating Statement Someone Has Made To You Late

Sounds like my neighbour. When he came over to introduce himself I was doing some shaping (with food rewards). He rolled his eyes and said 'of course they'll do what you want, you've got food'. I let it be.

He now has two out of control dogs that bark constantly, but might be starting to come around.

The other week he was chopping trees that over hand our fence. At the same time I was training in the back yard (yes, again). He was kind of impressed to see 3/3 dogs run the width of the back yard, circle around the back side of a jump and come back to me, then do it with a tight turn going over the jump the 'right' way.

I'll keep working on them in the hope that one day the poor souls may get out to agility or something similar.

A work collegue of my daughter was here on the weekend, he looked at my Basset and said thats a funny looking Beagle. I said thats because he is a Basset not a Beagle. No, he said my Aunt used to breed Beagles, he is a Beagle, just a funny looking one. I gave up.

She said "he should be listening to you because you are his master and you are in charge, not because he knows you have chicken on you!"

That's archaic thinking. Wouldn't let that stress you out!

Hahahah they obviously don't own Whippets. YOu are definately NOT their master, they are far to regal for that type of talk :)

I also highly reinforce - especially my pup - for coming to me, if I call him or he just comes back, now it is a game, he zooms as fast as he can to get a reward. Shocking way to train a dog :)

Rosie has that whippet aspect. I can almost see her rolling her eyes sometimes.

Yep. Totally cruel, you should just boot them into submission :mad

First night back in my home town. I forgot how many bogans there are.

Some guy was trying to impress me with his "awesome animal training skills". Told me how he "asserted his dominance" over a horse and dog by punching them in the face... It's because his sister babies them apparently.

Safe to say he did not get anywhere with that.

Who the hell punches a horse in the face??

That's the kind of guy you'd like to hear about in a news story where his "awesomely trained" horse kicked him in the crotch and his genitals unfortunately had to be removed...

New personal favourite......Just after two barky little dogs ran about 50m from their owner to 'say hello' to my very interested border collies - only to take offence at the border collies boisterous greeting.

In response to my (polite at this point) request for the lady to call her dogs back I got,

'It's not my problem if your dogs are insane, they are under control. You have the problem.'

Ummmmmmm.......

1. The dogs are meant to be on lead.

2. I don't want unknown dogs running up to mine.

3. The little dogs were being rude, it was not 'just' a friendly greeting.

The upside is that I've done a LOT of work to make sure that CK's greeting is friendly. The problem was that the smaller dogs took fright at 3 wired border collies thinking they wanted to play and responding in border collie fashion.

Needless to say I wasn't quite so polite in response, especially when she suggested my dogs are not sane.

What made this particularly annoying was that I had copped a fine for having off lead (technically 'not under effective control') dogs in a quiet park at 6am 3 days earlier. 3 dogs in a stay being recalled one at a time over 5m. Not really a danger to anyone, but I know I was wrong - rules are rules. I just wished they were enforced where the is a problem, not just where it is convenient for the inspectors to get to.

A blessing, I bet...

I've noticed this in our area too. Bogans with big bull breed crosses walking down the street get totally overlooked but a woman playing fetch with a little terrier x in an entirely empty park is a gold mine.

I actually saw the ranger walk past this dropkick with a jim beam in hand and dog weaving about the path sniffing to get to the old lady in the park across the road.

Still, I can't say I blame him. I wouldn't have approached him either but surely then he should turn a blind eye to both?

I'd have argued if I were the older lady.

I have Chinese Cresteds.. I get some interesting comments about my breed of dog..

I once had a person come up & tell me they were Papillons :) I quietly corrected, at least he came to me instead of what most people do, & tell their friends loudly as they walk by that they are mexican hairless (no my breed of dog is not from south america) granted they are hairless & I guess that can be confusing, but please have the courtesy to ask me what breed of dog they are..

the other comments I get from people I know is that they are not real dogs (starting to get sick of this one) or that I should get a real dog :p

my oldest Krusty is pretty much my soul/heart dog, he changed my life.. so this comment is also starting to get old..

as far as off leash areas go I tend to be wary, I like my boys to socialise but wihtin reason, thankfully we do agility so they socialise with other agility dogs, some of which have issues with other dogs but at least we are all aware & the owners are all responsible for their dogs behaviour.

not long after I got my first crested I took him to the local dog beach, it was a quiete day so no other dogs about, I had my dog on leash as he was still relatively new to me (he was a rehome - ex show dog from his breeder) a man approached us with a labradoodle puppy off leash, man was on his phone not paying any attention to his puppy, which promptly began to pounce all over my much smaller crested boy who due to his lead could not get away & became very distressed, I instinctively bent down to either push the puppy away, reassure my dog or pick him up, what resulted was my dog leaping into my arms, the man then approached apologising saying his wife normally walked the dog & it needed to learn better manners (my thought was if it needs to learn manners it should not be off lead) anyway man went running off down the beach with off leash puppy in tow for about 100 metres, at which point it promptly turned around & starting running back to us, as it approached I used my firm voice to say "no Sit" at which point the puppy sat down & waited for its human to come get it.. so I think the puppy had manners but the man did not know how to control his dog.. but to be honest if your thinking is that your dog needs to learn manners then keep the animal on lead until it does learn those manners..

sorry for the long winded story :) just really pisses me off when people let their dogs run amuck off lead then say they need to learn manners..

Made me immediately think of the movie Far and Away when Tom Cruise punched the horse in the face when is was rearing up and the like and he wanted a horse to race to get a flag for land.

After meeting and spending about 30 seconds with my 10 week old malinois puppy she says: "oh what is this breed? I want one of these... or a mastiff" Didn't take her long to change her mind

About a 12 week old BC x GSD puppy on their back patio: "See what we are going through, he KNOWS he's not supposed to be on that patio" I asked, "is he getting through the fence?" Her reply: "oh there's no fence. He just knows."

Or telling me little dogs are so aggressive because they snap at her mastiff cross when it runs off to them on lead and they are on a lead and can't escape

There are a lot of funny stories here but the idea of tossing up between a Malinois and Mastiff really has me laughing

Well you know they do have similarities... they both have paws for instance, and they can both be a fawn colour... I'm sure there must be more

and they both start with "M" lol

oh I have another one!

I will never understand the conviction people have that Gem is an Aussie or Aussie mix..I HAVE an Aussie, the only way that Gem resembles her is that they both have black, white and tan in a patchwork pattern..the difference is that my Aussie is Merle...Gem is white with sable freckles. like, no part of her shape resembles an Aussie. and yet.... I seriously had someone at Gems Rally trial last weekend come to be and ask what she was, I told her and she said "really? I would have thought she was mostly Aussie!!...well except for her head..that looks looks nothing like one..and her body..." soooo...she looks just like an Aussie...except nothing like one??  (Gem is an Australian Cattle dog X German Shepherd Dog) that said I have never had a single person who OWNS an Aussie think she was one lol

In an obedience class being told my GR "must be a dream to train" -yes that is why I, and my OH, have spent 1/2 hour, at least, virtually every night at the local park practising, practising, practising, and why in a year I have only missed 3 nights of training ( 2 of which for a holiday ). A dream ...yes .... But certainly not without some hard work and persistence. GR 's do not come out trained
