What's The Most Frustrating Statement Someone Has Made To You Late

Just today I heard this one again. When I explained that my dog has allergies and can't eat many foods, someone said "Maybe you're just letting him be fussy." Yeah, totally. Nevermind that he chews himself until he bleeds...

There is a woman that I avoid at the local park, she seems to be always there with her dog. She doles out beef treats to any dog that sits, drops heaps of it on the ground, and I had to protest strongly to get her to refrain from giving it to Bruno.

 Yeah Steph M. They just blew me away honestly....

 Steph, I'm wasting my time training Stella really then aren't I? I'll just go & get me a glass of bubbles, sit down & ask Sonny to do it. Simple

Really my only thoughts at the time was, poor Jack. Where is he going to end up with owners like that. Yes probably back where he came from sadly :(

Can I send Gus too? You could make a fortune!

It's funny all the stories about parent's letting their kids run up to and play with strange dogs. The Kids & Dogs thread is all starting to make sense.

One plus One equals........ um Two?

Yeah, you can see where the madness and hysteria comes from. Dopey parents who think they're all entitled and kids who grow up thinking the same are a recipe for disaster.

I had one too, though apparently my favourite game was taking off under racks of clothing and tangling myself up before mum could grab my chubby behind and stop me. Perhaps she should have smacked me more. Haha. I'm sure if I ever have children Karma will pay me back.

There's a reason I don't have kids... my mother cursed me by stating that one day I'd get one just like me... and I'm too scared to have one now... lol!

I was a complete shocker as a tyke...

I was walking my Golden boy at the local market with my friend a couple of weeks ago and out of no where a little boy comes running up to Toby to pat him. I looked around and couldn't see any parents around so I said loudly to Toby lets go its time to go to hopefully give the kid a hint. As we started walking off the kid wrapped his arms around Toby's neck  Thank god Toby is a very laid back dog and wasn't bothered at all by this. Both me and my friend were so shocked by this but we did get the kid to let go. I would hate to think what would have happened if Toby was a more reactive dog :(

I have also had kids try to grab the lead out of my hand because some kids wanted to walk and ride my dog  Again no parents in sight :mad

I used to have a long-coated GSD, who of course was a magnet for kids, especially with his big fluffy face and ears. I used to tie him up outside the local newsagent whilst I popped in to get the paper from the front of the shop and I could see him at all times. Had to come tearing back out of the shop one day as I saw a group of about 5 kids around the ages of 7 or 8 suddenly surround him, trying to untie him and squabbling amongst themselves who was going to take him for a walk!!!! I grabbed the lead just in time and wound it around my hand, then one obnoxious brat (a girl) started yanking at that hand, demanding "GIVE IT TO ME, I WANT TO HOLD HIM." No idea where their parents were.

Another time I was walking back to the post I'd tied him to, and a mother and her toddler were approaching from the other direction - the toddler then ran straight at my dog (with the mother making no attempt to stop her), grabbed the hair around his face with both hands and pulled as hard as she could!!!! Luckily I was close enough that I could lunge forward to grab her and prise her off. The mother was up in arms about me "manhandling" her child - I felt like retorting that she was lucky that her daughter still had a face as my dog wasn't used to kids but GSDs had a bad enough rep at that time as it was, so we just left as quickly as possible before I said something I regretted!

Thankfully my boy had a great temperament, but any dog could be provoked to snap in self-defence or if suddenly startled in that sort of situation so have never left a dog tied up outside a shop in all the years since.

My sister was an absolute demon, up until about 20 and she has just had her first and the payback is already beginning. I'm not game!

He's probably got a head start there, he works hard at it!

I think I'll go against the grain of the greenhound collar program being for every dog as I think that the general public would become more complacent about dog behaviour.

As there seems to be a common theme of if the dog isn't muzzled then go for your life with patting/manhandling them.

This has happened to me before and it was the most scariest thing I could think of happening (I wrote it up in the puppy thread).

Well it was interesting walking Treble this afternoon. While I was preoccupied picking up his poop, a little boy ran up to him and grabbed him around his face and was laughing. I almost died. I yelled at him to leave Treble alone to which the mother who was about 10metres away on her phone ran over and asked if Treble was dangerous in any way. I said he could have been for all you know and she said that she though he was friendly and it was ok for her son to go up to him because Treble was out in public without a muzzle on.. Once I had calmed down I gave her and her son a bit of a talking to I only hope it sinks in.

People who don't have dogs don't seem to understand that they aren't stuffed toys, especially with small cute fluffy dogs. When my Shihtzu Bonny was a pup, we had some in law family around to the house with their 4/5 old, the child wouldn't leave her alone, the parents encouraged him to pester her, in the end I said to the kid as he was trying to tap her on her cute nose "You know she has teeth don't you", he reeled back and said "Does she", I said "Yes sharp puppy teeth I'd leave her alone if I was you". The kids father says "Puppies don't have teeth do they".

Hard to believe but true, that's what he thought.

The only dog that has ever scared me was an Akita... and I'm the craziest dog lady ever - I'll happily ask pretty much anyone with a dog if I may have a pat/cuddle with their dog... *grin*

The Akita in question was seriously NOT friendly in the slightest, and was growling, lunging, and snapping at everything and everyone that moved - this dog was not excited or wanting to interact, it wanted to do harm. The owner thought it was funny to walk that particular dog around Flemington Markets of all places... *sigh*

Around my area they could hardly become anymore complacent... I think the stuffed toy comment is pretty much spot on

A cousin of mine had a Maltese Terrier who hated kids, he was fluffy and cute with very sharp teeth, but he'd do this exorcist hissing thing before he'd bite as a warning, it didn't stop parents saying "Pat the puppy" though. My cousin said kids would appear from no where, crawl under her table at the cafe, jump out of bushes in the park to get to her bitey dog. She stopped walking him as much because she was a nervous wreck, forever on kid alert. ???????????? Some of the general public are just unbelievably uneducated.

I'm reading all thi thinking just WTF?? I have 5 kids and every single one of them has been taught from the very beginning that they are to ask permission from the owner BEFORE they attempt to pat a dog we don't know..

Never mind the fact that its basic good manners.... It also saves the kids getting bitten and the dog being stressed. However there are a lot of things in the world today that make me stand back and say WTF in general, the more I see of people the more I like my pets!

I don't know how often the kid attack happens to people with big dogs but I know being a small dog owner it's a constant problem. My dog is wary of kids as she's been swarmed many times, the worst is when they come from behind you with no warning, that really scares her. I pick her up now and let them pat her one at a time, telling them the whole time they should ask the owner before they touch any dog and never creep up from behind. Some parents aren't happy when I say that kind of thing but that's too bad.
