Food Amount?

Hi

I am in the process of switching my pup from pro plan to holistic select.

I was just checking the packets and the amount of cups for his weight is quite different, he will be having a LOT more of the holsitic select?

Is this usual for different foods? he struggled to eat all the pro plan when I accidentally doubled the amount in thebeginning due to a typo on breeders instructions, not sure how he will eat that amount on the holisti select!

Whenever I've read the feeding instructions on dry food I think for my dogs it's always too much. I only feed a small portion of dry to my dogs in the mornings now, so I dont even bother reading the manufacturers instructions. I base how much I feed on the body condition of my dogs. People are often surprised at how little I actually feed them.

Is your puppy fat, thin or a good healthy weight? Just judge it on that.

When I fed Holistic Select, just like now with the Earthborn Holistic, they are only small amounts. My dog is 20kgs, as a pup she was eating 1 barf patty + 1.5 cups of kibble (half a cup in the morning a cup at night). Only difference now is a bigger breakfast - one cup.

Totally guessing that your pup is between 14 and 18kgs (maybe an overestimation) but even then, you'd be feeding 1 3/4 - 2 1/2 cups...not a lot really. Reducing that if any other food/treats are given.

But I always use the guides as that - a guide. Always go off dog's condition, they all have differing metabolisms like us. Eg.I can eat maccas a few times a week and not see a difference, other members of my family cannot.

When I used to feed more dry food I found it amusing to read the packets that always recommended I feed roughly double what any of my dogs needed. The recommended amounts are there to sell more dog food. You feed as much as the dog needs to maintain condition and that can vary by 300% with dogs the same age and breed.
