kelpiecuddles
Just wanting a couple of cheap extendable leads to use just for when we are walking out bush/at the beach in areas where the girls need to be on leashes legally but I am happy for them to have a bit more freedom. The girls have quite good recall and won't pull against them, I just basically want that link between me and them for 'legal' reasons and the good one we used to have jammed from use down the beach so I don't want to bother with expensive ones just want a couple of cheap and nasties so i can afford to replace them more often if needed. Does the Reject shop sell them? Any other places that have el cheapos? ETA: i've been using a couple of long horse leads but I keep getting tangled up in them when I want to bring them in shorter LOL Edited August 24, 2013 by kelpiecuddles
dancinbcs
The cheap ones are lucky to last for two walks. If you are going to use extending leads get the original Flexi lead ones.
kelpiecuddles
The flexi ones were what I had last time, one lasted a month because it got clogged with sand after one of the kids put it down on the beach. At $30 + even they aren't worth it.
BrigadoonRose
I saw some in a $2 shop during the week. I don't know how much they were, but they'd be cheapies.
Salukifan
No extendable lead is going to last with sand in the rewind mechanism. A cheap one is an accident waiting to happen.
huski
You'd be better off with a good quality long line. It won't fail under pressure like an extendable or other cheap leashes. IMO it is never worth it to rely on cheap crappy gear especially leashes.

kelpiecuddles
I've been using some great long lines. I'd be alright if it was one dog but its too much line to cart about with two dogs
Diva
Long lines and extendable leashes may not meet your legal obligations in an on-lead area anyway, sometimes the regs stipulate maximum lead length.

I was just about to say that. Most councils around here have a maximum lead length of 2m.
Steph M
What about Ebay? Probably not top notch, but sure you can order a heap. Haha.
mac'ella
if you want do do a bit a handi craft buy some bungee chord and some 1 inch webb tape, stretch the bungee chord out lay the tape along it then stitch the two together at intervals.it will allow your dog more distance but will retract to the length of the chord when slack so wont drag or tangle as much, you can pass the tape thru a spring clip and tie off and put a steel ring in the other end to attach to a short lead. or tie a loop in it It's not as good as a retractable but won't clog up with sand Edited August 26, 2013 by mac'ella
kelpiecuddles
That's a cool idea mac'ella but my I don't like to let my dogs pull against the lead so as soon as they felt the pressure from the stretch they'd stop anyway. Thanks for the tips guys. I'm not too worried about the maximum length to be honest as the places we go are mostly practically deserted anyway, it's just a bit of a safety net to reduce the chances of us getting in to trouble. I wish my dog was like that tho he is getting better,he is a rehome and is handfull,I don't use a strong chord its just enough to loop the tape back and support the weight to stop it dragging,
