Boxbright
I've had to admit my 11 week boxer puppy to hospital this morning. Friday and saturday she had a slight limp in her left leg, showed no signs of pain when touched and was bright and playful. 4am this morning I woke to her wimpering and no bowl or bladder control and unable to move her back legs at all. Tic, snake bite, parvo and any type of leg or spine fracture have been ruled out. They have a neuro specialust coming to look at her today. Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this at all? I am beside myself at the moment. Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

BC Crazy
I haven't heard of anything like this but I hope she is going to be OK. Poor little girl Good luck at the Vets with her
LisaCC
See if the Neuro will rule out Coonhound Paralysis. My partners dog Ruby came down with paralysis earlier in the year, two dogs were admitted to the specialists for the same problem and it was down to either Coonhound Paralysis or Death Adder bite (tests for snake bite where negative but that doesn't mean everything). She was treated at the specialists for over a week and now she is perfectly fine, as is the other dog. Thread on it here Edited August 18, 2013 by LisaCC
Salukifan
Disc or spinal cord issue perhaps? I hope you get answers and a solution very soon.
Boxbright
Nothing was obvious with the disc or spine but maybe a specialist will see different. I will also suggest Coonhound. If only they could talk.
Boxbright
Vet has called, they think it might be Ratlung disease. They will do a spinal tap in the morning to send off for testing.
ari.g
So sorry. Hope you get a diagnosis and can start treatment ASAP. Poor puppy
Xyz
Poor puppy. I know of a dog that had this as a baby puppy, has gone on to be a successful show and breeding bitch and a lovely family pet! Don't lose hope.
persephone
Rat Lungworm Disease? Not nice . AFAIK These parasites spend time in the bodies of rats ..and also snails .. Hope your little girl suffers only temporary loss of function , and that she'll be home again soon.
kelpiecuddles
Yep, most commonly caught from snails, a few kids have contracted it that way
Boxbright
Without confirmation the vet is now thinking it is more likely Neosporosis of course we won't know until the results are back, which will take over a week.
LisaCC
Oh no, are they going to treat for Neosporosis anyway before the results are back? Sending good vibes your way.
Boxbright
Yes they have already started treatment. I've contacted my breeder just to give her an update and especially if it is Neo she may want to let other puppy owners know in case they want to get tested, also she might want to look at testing mum. I thought I was doing the right thing in letting her know but feel I may of offended her.
OSoSwift
You have done the right thing. It would have been quite a shock got her, especially since the whole litter may be affected. Give her a little time, she will also be upset that your puppy is so unwell
Boxbright
She has been back in touch with me and she is fine. She is upset about. As I've told her we should wait till the results to come back and then we can cross any bridges if and when we come to one. On a brighter note Bailey barked at the nurses for some attention, which is a good sign.

I agree with OSo, the breeder was probably shocked and upset at the news. I do hope your little munchkin will be ok, with no long-lasting effects. Barking and seeking the nurses attention does sound like a good sign. Fingers and paws crossed here for Bailey.
Boxbright
Bailey is eating and drinking, tail has moved slightly but still no movement in legs. Appears brighter and barking at staff to play with her. Mostly good signs so far
