Many marriages are supposed to endure until one party dies but death could not part a devoted dog from its dead owner who stayed by his side for 23 days, braving freezing conditions and predators in Argentina's harsh Patagonia region.

Bernardo Quiroz, 27 was travelling with his wife, two children and dog Talero to visit his brother in the south of Argentina in mid-July, El Patagonico reports.

During the trip his car broke down in an isolated area with little passing traffic, so he set off on foot with Talero in search of help.

It is believed that Mr Quiroz became lost during a snow storm and died.

His frozen body was found 23 days later with his loyal pet still by his side.

Rescuers reportedly found signs that the dog had tried to keep its owner warm by lying near his feet, torso and head.

Talero is also believed to have fought off local predators such as foxes, armadillos and birds to keep them away from his master's body, which was found intact.

Investigators said Mr Quiroz died from exposure to the cold.

Mr Quiroz's family was found in their broken down car a few days later and all are in good health.
