Concerned With Amount Of Litters

After looking at breeders for French and British bulldogs to welcome a new puppy into our home I have been concerned. There seems to be one breeder who advertises litters very often in both British and French bulldogs. Three plus litters a year. At the moment the British bulldog has a black, brown and slight white colour pup in picture.

What measures are in place to prevent this. In my opinion this is a backyard breeder. They have had umpteen litters, in both breeds. I have been stung by someone who advertised her before and walked away $250 out of pocket and no puppy. I also nearly lost a deposit on another breeder who advertised here but was fortunate that my previous experience has me asking many questions and when they couldn't give me name of condition the puppy had and hid our visit, kept me in garage, while someone was viewing other pup I decided that I will go with my gut. Even with a 'discounted price' a breeder not knowing the name of the condition the pup had, only just been at vet set alarm bells.

Other than seeking out the set dog clubs, it seems like like a few, not all abuse this outlet for advertising, again in my opinion. I have experience in other breeds as I have only been looking for those breeds.

I have found the best way to find a good breeder is to go along to shows and watch the dogs and their breeders(from an out of the way vantage point), you'll quickly get a feel for the breeders and their dogs that way. If you are sensible and wait until the breeder is finished showing they may even be willing to have a chat with you there.

Hello, frenchie owner here. There has definitely been a huge number of byb and irresponsible breeders that have cropped up due to the increasingly high popularity of frenchies and british bulldogs. You are very right to be cautious and good for you for doing your research.

My advice to you would be to get in touch with the breed clubs - the website for the NSW club is http://www.frenchbulldogclubnsw.asn.au/. They should have a contact list - you can speak to a member of the club to get a feel of what to look for when looking into a breeder. I know I have spoken to the club members when my frenchie came across some health issues and they were more than helpful. They would be more than happy to speak to you and point you in the right direction.

I know exactly which breeder OP is talking about, I have reported them to both dogs NSW and dogzonline a few times but they keep advertising litters.
