grizabella
That must have been pretty special to watch! It's great to see that they have such great bonds with their keepers. I've found that the best time to view the pandas (and the orangutans, tigers and sun bears as well) is just after the zoo opens when the animals are still going about their morning business and there aren't many visitors. tdierikx
It's a bit cool here still for our orangutans to be out all day - so they spend a lot of their time in their day room under warm covers... come summer, we'll see them out a lot more I think. I hear you about grotty glass piper... what's the go with people lifting their kids up to the glass straight after giving them a sticky ice cream anyways? And half the time, the kid is scared witless by the big scary thing on the other side of the glass and screams blue murder... *sigh* One thing I can't get my head around is how many people bring their babies (under 1 year old) to the Zoo - in a huge stroller/pram contraption no less - and then proceed to park said sleeping or squalling baby in places that make it impossible to manoeuver around - or have to smash you in the legs with the prams as they decide to move somewhere else. Can't they see that a 6 month old baby cares very little about what's on offer at the Zoo? I hate prams with a passion... grrr! T.
Kirislin
These are great. Whenever I go the big cats are either sleeping or right up the back where I cannot see them. You've captured some amazing expressions. Check out the biceps on that male chimp. You wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him, he'd tear your head off. Rainers
Lots of babies under 1 find the zoo interesting. Maybe you don't understand but new parents are quite eager to have special family days with their new bubs. Prams are annoying for parents too but there's not really any other option. I took my son to Werribee Zoo when he was about 6 months and he loved it. Anyway nice photos OP :) I have quite a few from Adelaide Zoo if you want to see :) http://www.redbubble.com/people/durberville

grizabella
I can ID some of the Taronga apes as well if you like. :) Here are few photos from today's visit to Monarto Zoo, I tried not to take too many photos as I'll be going again on Wednesday for Zuri's first birthday celebrations. The quality's not great on most of my photos as it was a dark day and the indoor enclosure is quite dark at the best of times! grizabella
It's taken a while to sort through them, but they're coming! It was absolutely wonderful to see so many keepers, volunteers and visitors out to wish her a happy birthday, and the chimps were SO excited to get so many treats. :)
