Stitch
Dog forbid that anyone should have a close encounter with Parvo but I am posting a link to an interesting article regarding a new low cost at home treatment protocol for parvo in puppies which I think everyone should consider passing on to their vet. http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.edu/pages/parvo-puppies-new-protocal.aspx Edited August 7, 2013 by Stitch
Dogsfevr
I don't think its case of convincing vets but owners who feel the dog is better in a vets care as they can monitor better. We had a dog with parvo back in the 80's & this method was the norm back then but the vet only did it with clients WHO could follow the rules at home & was at home to give the care & the precautions required to not risk other dogs in the area. There is no way our girl would have survived if no one was home to care for her in which case she would have been better at the vets by the same token recognizing the signs & getting vet treatment asasp is the major issue ,people leave it to late
Stitch
Yep, I agree with that Showdog, I would rather a dog with parvo be cared for at a vet hospital where there are vets on duty 24/7 but that is not always the case. There vets that don't offer that 24/7 service and there are also new vets and dog owners coming through all the time who have not experienced what we have....and just maybe there are people or dogs out there that may be helped by passing on this article. IMO you can never have too much knowledge and it is no burden for people to read an article which may in some small way help.
Rappie
I've treated quite a few parvo pups with a similar protocol. It's not ideal but it's worth a try but it does depend on having the right combination of patient and owner because it's not the 'easy' option.
