Had there been any complaints or threats prior to this happening. Have your dogs ever escaped your property?

Did you actually call the police to come and see what had been done to your poor dog. Perhaps just calling them wasn't enough. You need to make it an official report I would imagine. I admit I'm not up on police procedure.

My god, that is horrifying.

I would definitely go into the police station and request a formal report, and do the same with the RSPCA. My dealings with the RSPCA have been very positive (in Vic), they followed up on the one complaint I have ever made.

That is just horrendous, such an awful thing to witness, I really do not know what to say to give comfort after such a brutal attack.

I agree about going to the police station & do not be fobbed off by some civvy behind the counter or on the phone. You actually need to speak to a member of the constabulary, I'd be asking for the station sergeant, personally.

I have heard the crime stoppers line is not actually manned by police at all, the service has been tendered out to a private company.

 OMG !!! What an horrendous thing to happen to your poor pooch & for your family to have to deal with :( There are some evil people in this world. You have my sympathies.

I don't know how I would react in this situation. I'd say they have to sedate me & put me in a padded room.

I really don't have any advice as such for you. You have called the police. Call them again & make more 'noise'. Maybe I would contact the RSPCA. Surely someone may have seen something/someone lurking around ???

Good luck with your hunt to find the sicko that was depraved enough to do such a thing.

No complaints about us or the dogs in fact my neighbour helps us with transport etc for foster dogs .The police came saw our dog and we showed them the neighbours yard Thinking maybe there had been break ins in the area that night ---They just said what did we expect them to do he was dead .

Pets at peace took him soon after .

Because he wasn"t a barker we didn"t even know anyone was in the yard .We asked the neighbour behind although they didn"t even seem suprised and for the first time ever their yappy dog was no where to be found. Anyway We went through all the what ifs still can"t find a reason as to why .Our vet thought maybe they were jumping back fences and was scared by him but he would have just laid down so there wouldn"t have been a need to kill him.

So many things went through my mind its taken me this long to write this without bursting into tears .

I just thought after hearing this other lady"s story today and being another big dog and so close to home that maybe there had been other incidents happening around the area ?

I think because we may never know means we have no closure making it even harder to cope .

We have since raised all our fences installed back lighting and because I couldn"t hang the washing out without crying we are redesigning the back yard .BUT you know whats even more heartbreaking ----Our other dog stands staring at the spot where he died and just hangs her head then she will lay down and sleep there for ages

It's probably not related given the distance between the two locations, however I will mention this in case it is helpful.

NSW Police are investigating the killing of a dog (which I think I read was a Bull) in Lemon Tree Passage today (North Newcastle) Port Stephens LAC responded to a call there today at 11am, and they are appealing to the public to locate the man who is still believed to be armed with a knife.

I'll spare you the details of what was reported for the dog.

Port Stephens police - 02 4983 7599 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333000.

I saw this detail on Facebook today.
